Stuge Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 None of those are outright wrong decisions. Even with DRS those would have stayed the same. and if they would have been given out ..they would have remained out with drs .Reason ,why I said poor umpiring cannot be justified by havin DRS .
FreakazoiD Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Murali Vijay was not out first test..more decisions have been against us than England. Only Prior and Root so far. For us Vijay' date='Kohli in first test. and moeen pak ali thrice...[/quote'] I do not wish to get into a pointless argument. Yes there have been umpiring mistakes made in both tests, and more will be made in matches to come. Point I'm making is they have gone both ways, not just against India, which is what some people are trying to insinuate rather childishly.
SLICKR392 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Just can't believe how he could give that not out, despite having a good long look.
JaiRamesh2 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 DRS wouldn't have helped us here. I don't know, with DRS I feel umpires are more liberal at giving lbws putting the onus on the batsmen to challenge and review.

One went our way, one England's, end of story.
Gollum Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Another point to note is that umpires are more liveral in giving LBWs when there is DRS.
SLICKR392 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I don't know' date=' with DRS I feel umpires are more liberal at giving lbws putting the onus on the batsmen to challenge and review.[/quote'] And they would be under no pressure if it is against India. A wrong call i.e.
saneindian Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Definitely not Buckneresque. Difficult to give on a pitch which at times was turning square with a lot of variable bounce.

Austin 3:!6 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 You cannot defend outright bad umpiring with DRS . Agree. DRS only allows you to use 2 reviews per 80 overs mind you. Some people behaving as if since BCCI is reluctant to use DRS it is India's right to get few howlers every game. That was a spinner bowling and even in normal pace with naked eye it looks out. Not sure why Dharmasena couldn't pick it. If anyhing this DRS made umpires lazy and incompetent.
saneindian Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Neither of those were his reasons to not to give it out. It does as some deliveries had turned way past the batsman jumping over the stumps. IMO it was not a howler rather a call which could go either way and will not look incorrect.

saneindian Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 It was hitting middle of middle stump. If that is not a howler you might tell us what is. Middle of middle as per hawkeye, pitch mat says on field call. So how exactly was that a howler?
Vilander Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Just can't believe how he could give that not out' date=' despite having a good long look.[/quote'] Yes thats what surprised me, if he was sure of it drifting down then give it not out immediately. he mentally replayed DRS in his mind, it was very clear. Moeen was deeeeep in crease both pads lined and leg stump was visible and it was hitting middle plumb in front, no way it could physically drift down leg. Its a match turning wicket not given. 94/5 is much worse than 105/4

So how exactly was that a howler?[/quote'] You are insinuating well accepted definitions when none exist. Howler or not or what is a howler is unimportant. Moeen was clearly gone as a nugget that you flush down the toilet, he was gone but not given. #disgracefulumpiring.
Gunner Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Bucknor robbed India of a Test Series Win in Australia, which we've never achieved in our history. Can't compare him to a decent umpire like Dharmasenna.
Vilander Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Ball cant not deviate suddenly and move down leg when the batsman is meeting it with his pads so deep in the crease and so low that it can no way jump over the stump. Pathetic decision.
NareshK Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 With DRS, umpires have been giving these close decisions in favor of bowlers because batsmen can then review them and if they are howlers, they would be over turned. But without DRS, umpires will give benefit of doubt to the batsmen because you can't overturn them and they will end up looking bad if they are howlers. So they play it safe. That's why we need DRS because our bowlers need all the help they can get. With DRS, we have won World Cup, Champions Trophy. When we go overseas and play tests, our seamers would need extra help of DRS to get wickets otherwise it wouldn't be easy for us to get 20 wickets. Its a simple thing that BCCI doesnt get. In fact, I don't even understand why they are even opposing DRS which is good for the game. Its just stubbornness and egoism more than anything else.

They said no and want to continue and not come down just pure ego. If they come out tomorrow and say they were wrong DRS is good, then people will applaud.
