G_B_ Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I think Shami deserves another chance. The truth is he is getting better with every spell. If what he says is true that he needs to keep playing to be fit then IMO he is going to get better as the series progresses.

He probably should have bowled a lot more in the warm ups. He does not seem to be a gym person. So the way he keeps physically fit is by bowling. Its quite similar to sachin who kept fit by playing for hours in the nets. You look at the western teams and going to the gym and building muscle is how they keep fit. The nets are there just for touch. indians and south asians need to adopt more of a gym culture. That IMO is happening and maybe in 20 years time we will be same as the western teams.

G_B_ Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 lol true ..even last season he was only in form after bowling for months in domestic cricket and a tours :cantstop: zaheer was same iirc its not a good thing though. In the first test i thought he looked a bit overweight. Seems to have shed 3-4 kg pretty quickly based on what i could tell at lords. If he is going to be another Zaheer then maybe he needs to be on tour and play a lot more matches.
saneindian Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 RKT seems to have warmed up to Aaron the test player again. Few days back he said Aaron is not yet ready for tests post his comeback! And IMO Aaron indeed should be played in ODIs for the time being. Its not as if he's going to bowl 95 mph in the tests, he will at best be around the 85-86 mph mark, around the same as Ishant. Given propensity for short and wide bowling, could be a totally wrong move. Better to get in someone like Pankaj who will get natural bounce due to his height. But unless Shami is not in a position to play, only then such changes will be made.
BeautifulGame Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Shami looked improved with every spell he bowled I thought . Even his pace was good in 2nd inn touching 140 at times .Not sure about fitness concerns as I don't see anything amiss there . Also why does most in ICF always want some dropped seriously ? First drop Bhuvi becoz he doesn't have pace and then moved onto Ishant and now want Shammi dropped? This is a young bowling attack(Even Ishant is only 25) the more and more they play together we will see them develop as a group. There will be inconsistencies from both Bhuvi and Shami till then. No need to dropping shami after a win like that

Kapil was saying in post match interview the best way to stay fit for a bowler is bowl over during matches rather than hitting gym

How could Shami have bowled more in the warmups when he wasn't fit? Think he had a major finger injury , still see him wearing a thick protection on the left thumb. There were reports of him being ruled out from the series (or a couple of tests) during the warmups.
G_B_ Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Kapil was saying in post match interview the best way to stay fit for a bowler is bowl over during matches rather than hitting gym You probably need to build muscle though. Especially around your shoulders. Bowling too much can wear your shoulder down. Kapil to be fair is a man of a bygone era. India need to adopt modern methods suited to them. Maybe not the gym but they can take up swimming atleast. Nothing like swimming to build up stamina.

Staying in shape must be his prime job when not playing. The reason I hated RP Singh and Sreesanth too. This is pure complacency and laziness, nothing else.

rkt.india Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 RKT seems to have warmed up to Aaron the test player again. Few days back he said Aaron is not yet ready for tests post his comeback! No, it is not like that. If Shami had bowled well, I would have never said that. Seeing him out of shape and lacking intensity, then why not try Aaron if Shami is not looking great fitness wise. At least, he is fit enough and will bowl with intensity. I hate fast bowlers who turn up with bellies to play for the team. Hated RP, hated Sreesanth for same.
