The next test starts on Sunday in Aegas Bowl, a relatively small venue. Worth a gamble with raw pace. Win the toss and bat.

It is their 2nd test only, wont want to give a flat road. A pitch like Lords will do. Ageas Bowl always have bounce.

Mooli and Dhawan providing decent back up to Sir. Might as well play Rohit who is a better spinner than Mooli and Dhawan

If it ain't broke, don't fix it If and only if Shami isn't 100%, should Pankaj be given a debut. With a 5 day break, even Shami should be ok before the tests start

SLICKR392 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Realistically Binny will be replaced by Ashwin which will leave us with Jadeja and Ashwin in the XI. Not a good idea, IMO. Either one should play + Aaron. Shami's getting better by each innings. Can sense a good spell on the way soon from Shami. AFAIK, Aaron's bouncers are pretty good + its quicker. Hell, even Binny could bounce these frail poms. A bit of pace from Aaron is only going to wreck more havoc in this English line up.

Bats at 7 behind Dhoni and can bowl 8-10 overs - the test win has given him that breathing space IMO. The brain freeze that he had would have been the end of his career if the test was drawn or had we lost.

Somebody like Jadeja can bowl 30 overs in a day and keep it tight. So i am questioning the utility of those 8-10 overs. I think even Rohit can bowl 8-10 overs.

Dhoni needs to show a bit more faith in Binny.

Binny shouldn't be in the side just for the simple reason that Dhoni doesnt know how to use him. You don't pick someone in tests to bowl 8 or 10 overs and give 40 runs and then maybe contribute 25 runs with the bat. That's a waste of a spot.

TheTruth Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Binny for Ashwin makes the most sense. Perhaps a defensive move compared to adding a pace bowler but I think it'd allow us an out if we want to close out a draw.
