So he picks 51 wickets in domestic season, goes onto pick 24 wickets vs Aus in his 2nd test series, gets a 6-er in his first away test. What else does he need to do? Yes ideally he needs to chip with 1-2 wickets regularly in each innings away from home, but in a young spinner's career those things will happen. BTW he has 183 FC wickets@27 in FC cricket, not sure if you will call that a one season wonder. Also, away from home, post Kumble, all our spinners have struggled - Bhajji, Mishra, Ashwin. Even Kumble took 6-7 years of away tours before he finally started to have away success.

He can be a big success here but, ideally, I would like a good quality , big turning spinner outside the subcontinent.

You are asking me to be a selector without having the opportunity to watch a reasonable number of 4 day or 5 day domestic matches spanning all teams. Only the selectors can tell who are the spinners in India who can turn the ball big and are also taking domestic wickets. I have seen some spinners that are turning the ball. Like Karanveer Singh, Shreyas Gopal, Y.Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Amir Goni. etc. There could be others too. Who among these are good enough to be picked , the selectors can tell. Even if they are not ready yet , they could be groomed for the near future. Problem is .... Very few new spinners are being groomed or picked in the A team for the 4 day matches. Spinners these days in India do not get as much importance as batters or pacers . They do not have a good academy . The bowling coach is invariably a pacer. If sufficient importance were given to finding and grooming really good test quality spinners we could get some great ones.

This guy seems to have got the definition of "specialist" wrong. A specialist bowler is someone who is good at bowling, not someone who's not good at batting.

Jaddu is an honest trier. He will get a few wickets overseas in some game, nomatter how infrequently . Then, you will have your day.

I think Jadeja is a fine spinner in the subcontinent (often looks very tough to play) and tbf, he was untested outside India. However, I think we see that although competent, he cannot be the best spinner for India to play in non-subcontinental conditions. Ashwin's 4 Tests outside India have not gone too well for him either. Perhaps we need an SOS to Pragyan Ojha who absolutely destroyed county cricket in his brief stint in 2011 (24 wickets at 12.95). I think Ojha was treated unfairly simply because there are better spinners than him within Indian conditions (Jadeja and Ashwin).
