Muloghonto Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 The only rule is that your team must not contain any of the players on this team. Tell us why you think your team will beat this one in a 5-day test match played on a sporting pitch under perfect conditions: Sunil Gavaskar Gordon Greenidge Don Bradman (captain) Sachin Tendulkar Brian Lara Garry Sobers (vice captain) Imran Khan Rodney Marsh Anil Kumble Malcolm Marshall Glenn McGrath Short answer, this side is unbeatable over the long run. Reason being, the batting lineup is practically the best possible batting lineup all the way down to 6 and arguably, 7 of 8 spots since Imran makes it to almost all world XIs as well. Sunil, Don, Sachin, Lara, Sobers- that is a near constant in the top 6 of almost all XIs, so i dont see an XI that can match its batting. Bowling, its possible to put together a bowling attack that is comparable or slightly better but not as significantly better than this bowling attack as it needs to be, to compensate for significantly weaker batting lineup. But anyhoos, here's my attempt to 'lose gallantly' to the above XI: Virender Sehwag Geoff Boycott Viv Richards Greg Chappell Jaques Kallis Steve Waugh Adam Gillchrist Richard Hadlee Shane Warne Michael Holding Curtly Ambrose

Lawry will occupy the crease for hours. Gooch will score runs, Miandad will piss off the opposition and hit them for 4, Martyn could play spinners amazingly as well as the quicks, Flower is the best keeper batsman that will score runs but his keeping is a bit so so, which is why I was thinking of Brad Haddin in his current form because his keeping is amazing at the moment while Flower can play as just a pure batsman that can score runs. Richie is a bloody underrated all rounder, bowls leg spin, captains amazingly and can score centuries. Alan Davidson does the same except pace bowling, Lillee was an amazingly intelligent bowler that was bloody quick and Jeff Thomson would try to kill you. That's the team using no players that anyone else used. EDIT - Swapping Haddin for Boucher.

Scarves Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 haddin :hysterical: seriously he will not even be in the 4th or 5th x1 for Aussies.....a very poor keeper when out of sorts and not the greatest of record overseas....unbelievable you couldn't find another keeper  You haven't watched the past year or two of cricket have you? His keeping is at a prime. He keeps well to spinners, he kept really well to Johnson and Harris in South Africa, England and Australia. He kept well in the last test in India which helped Lyon gets his wickets. His head is clear, his footwork and glovework are clean. His batting adds a lot which is why I didn't put in a Healy or a Knott because even though they are better keepers, their batting isn't close to Haddin's. Plus Flower is a gun batsman anyway but his keeping is worse than Haddin's.

Also the criteria for most all time x1s are the best batsmen, bowler and allrounders of all time so apart from say a gilchrist, flower or a Boucher wouldn't it make sense to go with a pure keeper. I don't think even haddin will approve your list unless of course you are haddin yourself or his blood relative.

Naturally if you read my post I did state that I picked players no one else did. Some dude decided to make 3 teams for pete's sake. Would I pick Haddin in an All time World XI if I had any choice? No way, he wouldn't be in the thought process but I worked with what I had and I'm happy with the team. Apparently no one picked Boucher. I assumed someone did. Well swap Hadds for Bouch.

Fair enough....no dujon is surprising too
Scarves Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Fair enough....no dujon is surprising too Eh Dujon isn't a better batsman than Haddin, Boucher or even Healy. The Windies didn't really have to use his batting that much when you had Haynes, Greenidge, Viv, Clyde, Kallicharran and so on. Like Gilchrist in a way. He was able to be in a good situation after the openers, Ponting, Clarke and so on would score a bucket of runs and he could come in and score a lot of runs. But Gilchrist scored when the team was in trouble as well.

King Tendulkar Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 There is literally no footage of him. How can one gauge if there isn't footage. There is harldy any of bradaman and one we do see he looks awful, like bodyline and last carrer ball against awful googly. Yet everyone puts him in world 11 and many call him best ever. Justice to Lohmann I say, stats are amazing and people who played with and against him say he was unplayable. If stories of greatness good enough for bradman, then good enough for lohmann
