SSShhh. I'm going to let you into a little secret now, but don't tell anyone or I may be banned from every cricket ground in England for admitting to this most heinous of crimes. I sometimes watch the IPL. And I enjoy it. It's 'different'. I enjoy it in the same way I enjoy watching Spanish, German or Italian football. No attachment to any team, but I like the glamour of it and find it entertaining. There. I said it. Now if this is my last post, I will have been taken by the ECB secret police to the death camp in the heart of the Lord's pavilion, awaiting sentence along with others who displayed any form of sympathy towards any aspect of Indian cricket# However. I would not want it top be copied here. It is unique to India and it works because it fits in with modern Indian life and culture perfectly
good to know.i know a lot of brits who like the IPL and support their fav teams.agree, its unique to india, other boards should'nt copy it

But a lot of them, myself included were put off a bit by the amateurish coverage by the British broadcasters ITV. Adverts after every single over, lack of presenters with decent cricket knowledge with some of their football presenters being drafted in to do it. Hopefully now it's on Sky the overall package will be better

Pre IPL Era - 1 world title in 45 years Post IPL Era - 3 world titles in 7 years Just saying :two_thumbs_up:
Pre-IPL era - 3 world titles out of 14 in 43 years (1983 World cup, 2002 Champions Trophy, 2007 T20) Post IPL era - 2 world titles out of 7 Would appear slightly better but where it should have improved the team - in the T20 world cups - in the three WCs between 2009 and 2012, India won 1 and lost 8 of it quarter final league matches.

BCCI slams Botham for hitting out at IPL http://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/bcci-slams-ian-botham-for-hitting-out-at-ipl/article6382738.ece?homepage=true

“Let him get his facts correct first. He has asked how the other boards have allowed IPL to happen. The BCCI has distributed over ten million US dollars as compensation to the other cricket boards for allowing their players to play in the IPL,” fumed BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel, when asked for his reaction to Botham’s statement made at the annual MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at Lord’s in London on September 3. ... “I can still visualise the photo of Botham sitting in the front when Stanford went to England. And he has the temerity to talk about IPL. We don’t want his advice. We have enough top players like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Kapil Dev and Rahul Dravid to advice us,” he remarked.

"I go back to Kerry Packer when I first started, he shook the whole place up. I think what Stanford is doing is shaking it up again." Sir Ian Botham (June 2008)

Completely agree.
Agree to what? Some statements from this snob is completely hypocritical. Pay the boardS for owning the player for 2 months? An Englishman saying that lol

Isn't Botham the city where Batman is from? I think Botham is jealous. If Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Bloemfentein can host the IPL, Botham shoud too.

Majority of them did. And Malinga left in between the tourney.
So its not really effecting world cricket to extent made out to be. Just wrecking indian team!! Everyone so wrong. Rest of world acting like ruining world cricket and Indians acting like its some great thing for indian cricket. When in reality its the reverse! The main issue for world cricket is that some older players are retiring a bit earlier or retiring from certain formats as have IPL cash cow to cash in on.

Michael Holding has integrity. he always maintains his stand "I do not think Mr Stanford is telling the people what he's really about. He is telling people that he wants to revive West Indian cricket but how is a week of Twenty20 cricket going to do that? I am not going to be involved in a farce." Michael Holding, previously a Stanford supporter (Aug 2008)
