My friend, do you think people who cleared Muralitharan were uneducated idiots, having no idea of their trade and were simply following the orders from an island that ppl can't even point on a map? No. Do you think Ranatunga is actually responsible for global chucking turning? If yes, how do you think he executed this mass campaign? Teleported his aatma into ppl's bodies and influenced them? Gimme a break. Appreciate what a man has done! I know there is peer pressure when it comes to criticizing, but think a bit logically.
I won't give you a BREAK. If ranatunga had not supported that chucker then that stupid 15 deg rule would never have been made People who cleared murali were uneducated idiots( if you wanna call them that) cause the same bunch also cleared ajmal BAMM there goes your argument

Like Dhoni has a great understanding of match situation and would pace his innings accordingly. He also was a great captain. In mid 90s once SL started to get together the team which won the WC; SL did really well against us under him in ODIs.

Lol you started nitpicking the stats in Ranatunga's favour to prove something but whats your point ? despite not being at his best he did better than his glorius 80s :giggle: Those four years were the first four of Dravid's ODI career and he was'nt at his best for most part of that period. Are you trying to imply that Ranatunga was a better batsman than Dravid ? :hmmm:
What is my point ? Hmm .. nothing much really, and it is stupid for me to suggest that AR is 'better' than RSD. I used his name because it was mentioned in the previous post. Ranatunga had very high nuisance value (like Miandad had), could bat very effectively when he got going, but the less frequency at which he played these effective innings makes any direct comparison with RSD pointless.

Well if Ranatunga played in a team with better batsman, I bet him to beat Dravid hands down in ODI game. If you condiser changes in SRs over years, Dravid looks pedestrian compared to Arjuna. No point in getting worked up on his antics, because that is what he was. He was the predecessor Asian ***** to Ganguly and successor to Miandad. But he was a man of principles. Never did a single commercial in his life despite the popularity he had. And then in 80s and early 90s he was not fat.

That is a preposterous comparison.

I agree on that. The only captain who I've seen stick up for his team after Arjuna was Ganguly.

Don't think so. Dravid struggled to keep pace with the game when he played. 39.16 @ 71 is rather slow for the era (27.76 @ 74.8) he played. Arjuna averaged 35.8 @ 78' date= where he was leaps and bounds ahead of the scoring rate in his era (27 @ 68.8). As Dravid was a way superior batsman in tests, Ranatunga was a class ahead in ODI game compared to Dravid.

Dhoni also sticks up to his teammates. He once had threatened to quit if RP Singh was not picked.

No batsman would score 10000 runs while struggling to keep up with the scoring pace that too in Indian batting line up. He was the man of crisis for us. You can always bank on him when in trouble and we utilised his batting to his strength. So there was no pressure on him to go at sr of 90 and thats simply not his role, having said that he also had his share of some quick fire innings like the 23 ball 50 against kiwis. dravid is leagues ahead of him.
