In other words, the "changed" law 41.7/8 is still in draft format and not written into a law. If that is the case, then CLEARLY, Fawad Alam was robbed. Regardless of brilliance of Smith.

I didn't say he couldn't. Perhaps you should re-read my post, I said that I don't think either this or a premeditated switch hit is 'fair' but overall I think it's ok.

I think this is totally fair..more fair than switch hit The fielder only moved after bowler has bowled and batsman has movies it's not like he changed position before delivery was bowled it was during it and it's totally fair and I am sure many fielders do it even in out field when they see type of shot batsman is about to play

The interesting thing here is that Steven Smith was aware of these changes in rules and had the presence of mind to use it. How many Indian players keep track of all the little changes in rules that the ICC keeps bringing about?

I remember Raina doing something like during the last WT20. He was moving to the other side after the ball was bowled and Umpire called it a dead ball. Chapelli had a go at the umpire for calling it off as it was well within the rules.

I think this was unfair. What is the use of looking around before taking your batting stance if - behind your back - a fielder has moved position while the ball has still not reached you? The trouble is that they are allowing the switch hit which to my mind is also unfair to the bowler who has to plan his delivery based on the normal stance of the batsman. Still, in this case Fawad Alam wasn't switch-hitting so the catch should not have been allowed.
