Lord Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 The problem is with dhoni and BCCI as well they roll out dust bowls to opposition. But kumble and harbajhan played on wickets that turned on 4 and 5 th day not like ashwin and jaddu who are completely dependent on wicket to bowl. Ohja was decent but he is not even in contention for a test spot. Both have done better than Ojha, specially Ashwin.
Lord Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Ashwin and Jadeja both dont have guile needed as a spinner. Likes of Vettori' date=' Swann, Herath, even if the dont get turn, they deceive batsmen by subtle variations in pace and flight.[/quote'] Swann and Vettori have grown up playing on such pitches so they know how to adjust.Herath was poor overseas early on and only last 3-4 years he started doing well.It takes time for SC spinners to adapt overseas.Even Kumble took time

adi B Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 wont be selected.we should go with 6 proper batsmen and 4 pacers, nohit and mooli can bowl few overs in between to maintain the overrate
Marut Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Which Indian spinner has won matches in Australia in say, the last 20 years. Kumble could make some impact here, but only in the later part of his career as a 15 year old veteran. No other Indian spinner in the last 25 years has made an impact here, especially as a young bowler. Ashwin is in the team only as an all rounder. A spinner's role in essentially reduced to releive the pacemen on these pitches. You can expect Ashwin to take 2-3 wickets per match and get us some 50 runs per test. It will be upto the top order batsmen and pacers to give us victory.
CG Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Swann was poor in australia ,There have been good performances in australia even by finger spinners lyon of curent gen has done rather well. This is ashwin's second tour he has no excuses.
Marut Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Swann was poor in australia ' date='There have been good performances in australia even by finger spinners [b']lyon of curent gen has done rather well. This is ashwin's second tour he has no excuses. Home pitches. That is where he grew up and if he cannot not bowl there he would not be in the Australian team. Kumble, as the best Indian spinner in Australia over the past twenty years, averages 38. Bhajji averages 73 here. Murali averages 74. This land is generally a grave yard for spinners. The only way to improve your spinners here is to make them play to learn some harsh lessons.
Pagalpanti Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 As a batsman Ashwin >Rohit for away tests.
MUMBAISKIPPER Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 he is an average spinner and an average batsman.......He is a Tamil and the corrupt BCCI chief,Mr.Srinivasan, is also a Tamil.......that's why he has been in the Indian team for such a long time

MUMBAISKIPPER Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 yes just like Badrinath' date='Karthik and Mukund[/quote'] those Tamil jokers also made their way in the indian team because another Tamil Buffoon,Srikanth, was the chief selector of the Indian team during those days
achilles Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Playing well for CSK & Madras on Indias pitches is not a criterion for International selection. He can sit out the entire Australian tour and let the genuinely talented players take over. Thank you very much.

As far as I knew performances in first class cricket was the criterion for selection to the national team?
achilles Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 As far as I knew performances in first class cricket was the criterion for selection to the national team? And prior international records count for nothing? Regionalism trumps everything is it?

achilles Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Whence did an average spinner become the fastest to 100 wickets? Can we refer to his stats outside the subcontinent?
moniker Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 And prior international records count for nothing? Regionalism trumps everything is it? Where did I say anything about "regionalism"? I'm saying domestic performances should be the criterion for selection to the national team. And he hasn't done badly in the couple of tests he got in England, though he wasn't spectacular either.
bowl_out Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Can we refer to his stats outside the subcontinent? Spinners are hardly match winners outside the subcontinent. This has been discussed time and again... Their job is to bowl intermittently to reduce the load on fast bowlers, and if possible lend a hand with the bat to hang around with the last recognized batsman... Ashwin seems to fit that role perfectly... Also, spinners learn with time on how to bowl on tough wickets In any case, looking at Stats: Ashwin is the fastest Indian to 100 wickets thanks to his strong Home performances... Away, he has a better bowling average in England than the supposed ATG Kumble in the few matches that he has played... Kumble averaged 60+ in his overseas tours in the 90s. In his first tour to Aus, Kumble averaged 64.8 with the ball in 2 matches. Ashwin has a similar average in 3 matches. Has a 35+ average though with the bat, with two 50s In his first two tours to England, Kumble averaged 56.6 and 66.8. It was in his third and fourth tours to England that he could manage averages of 35 a tour. Source : http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/30176.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;host=1;host=2;template=results;type=allround http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/26421.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;host=1;host=2;template=results;type=allround Give this bloke some time. He has the potential, and has proven performances in Home tests. With some more overseas experience, he is likely to do well. His contribution with the bat is always a plus and gives us the option to play 4 quicks + one spinner Bringing regionalism into everything is absolute B/S
yoda Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Can we refer to his stats outside the subcontinent? Why play at home then?
