Ur basing this need 5 bowlers to win a overseas test match theory off of England win where Binny the 5th bowler took zero wickets. It was because of Bhuvi 6 fer Ishant 7 fer not 5 bowlers :hysterical: :

And to add, Dhoni bowled Binny for 2 overs in the match, probably to prove a point that he doesn't need the fifth bowler, and burnt his fingers in the third test.

So you play 7 batsmen, and hope one of your bowlers is going to pick a 7-fer each time you play a test. That's the most pathetic defensive strategy I have heard. And I repeat myself, between Rohit, Ashwin and Raina, I find Ashwin the most reliable with the bat. On the five bowler strategy, You need 20 wickets to win a test match. With a fifth bowler, I get the option to play four quicks. And they get adequate breaks between their spells and be more effective and less injury prone. Bowling Vijay or any other part timer is a bonus and not a requirement.

U genrally hope 4 bowlers are good enough or pick 5 if they are legitimately good enough as all rounders. When ur tail is lasting 30 balls u can't have 6 batsmen and 5 bowlers cause it's tactical suicide especially when having the 5th bowler never benefited u. U get 4 quicks but weaker batting (than it already is), in my opinion that's not a good trade off in urs it is...so be it :nice:

I would give him this series. If he doesn't perform in the series, then drop him. But if we drop him, replace him with a batsman (e.g. Rahul) and not Ashwin. Ashwin needs to focus on his bowling, rather than trying to get in to the team as an all rounder.

One bad innings does not make him a bad batsman. Only few weeks ago he scored 264 runs against a tough Sri Lankan attack in an ODI and we were bestowing praises on him.

Bist should have been on this tour ahead of KL Rahul. KLR is just not ready for Test cricket - too raw.

Bad day to be a Rohit supporter but hey I am...I believe he needs to play entire series...yup...I said it... Couple of things... Have seen this 'we need 20 wickets to win match' argument...yes we need but we often miss that we need those 20 wickets in lesser score than what our batsmen make in 2 innings...so its not a static equation...if our batsmen score more runs, our bowlers get that much more time to take those 20 wickets.... Given we are not overflowing with Steyns, Bonds and Johnsons....I believe addition of your fourth best pace bowler in place of additional batsman is not worth it.... Batsman needs one ball to get out...your 3 best pace bowlers and 1 spinner can bowl as much as they want to get 20 wickets... Remember...Gabba is a bowler's pitch...
