1990s all over again

That comes overtime. This is only their first year of test cricket overseas and has been a difficult year because they had to face 4 overseas tour in a row' date= no respite. This has never happened before.

Okay, lets wait till the career of these players is over and then compare Sehwag,Sachin,VVS,Rahul and Saurav to the likes of Murali,Shikhar,Chet,Ajinkya and Virat.

I somewhat disagree. Yes they care about the result when they are playing. I am not questioning their efforts on the field. I have no doubt that they are all trying their hearts out. What I question is whether or not they have a desire to out-work every other Test team in the world. The truth is, that is the only way they can become a dominant No.1 side. They have to be prepared to out-train the Aussies and the South Africans. I'm not so sure the Indians care enough to do that.

To have players of same ability and average like Sachin, VVS, Rahul, Sehwag and Saurav in same batting lineup yet again is a dream. Personally i have accepted that. But i am willing to wait another 10 years to see if the dream comes true second time.

Close loss abroad and we are comparing to teams of 90s. Give this team the whole series before writing them off.

We will talk about them once they play 50 tests at least. Need two more guys who are close to these four. Expecting we will get SRT, Dravid, Sehwag, Laxman again soon is too big a dream. Even a Gambhir or Ganguly who averages 40-45 over a period will do, but needs all top 6 to be in that category along with a better pace attack for overseas conditions.

If Kohli becomes the next superstar, then it will happen naturally. But India as a team can become a superstar team if they out-train every other team in the world. I don't see that happening.

The way they collapsed without any fricking clue was very similar to 1990s. You cannot expect to win or draw if your tail starts with no6 . 1990s get a bad rap because bowling did well it is only batsmen had no clue or any fighting spirit. That lack of spirit like Kohli or Vijay which said over my dead body attitude is what was lacking from others otherwise this would have never resulted in a loss.

In 90's, we didn't have a bad side at all. In India we were almost unbeatable while outside the sc, we didn't win any but lost lesser than these days too... I remember (started watching cricket from 1993-4 onwards) we used to draw quite often even in places like Sa(1997), Eng (1996), WI (1997), NZ (1999). Was whitewashed twice in Aus (0-3 in 99 and 0-4 in 91). But these days, we are losing almost everything :( Edit: By draws, I meant matches not series.

The scoring rates these days are making more and more matches result oriented. Draw is becoming lesser and lesser of a choice. That is why we see Indian team loosing match after match. If you can't win, then you have to lose - this is the situation. Check the attachment. In the 90s, most teams used to score at around 2.8rpo - 250 was the average runs scored on a given day. But most teams play much faster these days - 3.5rpo is becoming the current norm for test cricket and 300 runs are scored routinely on a given day.

Good analysis. One more point I would like to add is, Looking at the current bunch, Kumble, Srinath and Prasad were like ATG material by Indian standards. Why are they so underrated??
