DesiChap
Umpire Aleem Dar has been drafted in to replace Rudi Koertzen for England's Test series with Sri Lanka. The 58-year-old South African had angered Sri Lankans by wrongly giving Kumar Sangakkara out caught on 192 in their second Test run chase against Australia. Sangakkara's dismissal effectively ended any hope the tourists had of levelling the series and Koertzen appears to have paid the price for his costly error. Despite the replays which clearly showed the ball deflect off his shoulder Sangakkara came out to back the official after receiving an apology. Sangakkara said: "International umpires are not required to come and apologise when they make a mistake. "It thought it was a nice gesture on Rudi's part to come and have a chat and we moved on. "I thought Rudi had an excellent game and he's a very good umpire. He's been one of the top three umpires over the last two years and as a team we respect him a lot and have a good rapport with him." Pakistani umpire Dar will now stand with his countryman Asad Rauf for the first Test in Kandy though. Australian Daryl Harper will take over from Rauf in the second Test and Rauf and Harper will oversee the third Test in Galle. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12341_2923994,00.html Link to comment

DesiChap
Koertzen replaces Bowden for India-Pakistan clash Cricinfo staff November 27, 2007 Umpire Rudi Koertzen has been withdrawn from the upcoming Test series between England and hosts Sri Lanka, and will now officiate in the remainder of the India-Pakistan series, the ICC confirmed today. Koerzten, 58, was due to stand in the three-match contest starting in Kandy on Saturday but he was relocated to India after Billy Bowden, the New Zealand umpire, was forced to withdraw from the series due to personal reasons. The Pakistani umpire, Aleem Dar, was available but ineligible to officiate in that contest, so he will now join his compatriot Asad Rauf at Kandy. The ICC said that the decision was not related to the incident in Hobart earlier this month, when Koertzen incorrectly adjudged Kumar Sangakarra out for 192 to extinguish the slim chance Sri Lanka had of levelling the series. He apologised to the batsman afterwards. "We have a very professional bunch of umpires, and Rudi Koertzen is one of the best," said Sangakkara in his Cricinfo column. "You have to look at umpiring just like you do your batting: you make mistakes, but you get on with it. Once you have confidence in the umpire and the umpire in you, it's easy to move on." Dar will stand with Daryl Harper in the second Test in Colombo, while Rauf will partner Harper during the third Test in Galle. Koertzen, who has been an international umpire since 1992, has stood in 86 Tests and 182 one-day internationals. Link to comment
DesiChap
Wonder why SkySports is spinning this as if Koertzen has been dropped from officiating or is the ICC spinning webs? Link to comment
kablooee87
I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this. Link to comment

Sachinism
this is pathetic, he isnt good enough for Eng - SL but somehow it doesnt matter what happens in Ind - Pak games wtf how comes none of the umpires from the Eng - Ind series treated like this, they were constantly giving pathetic decisions Link to comment
Chandan
This is the worst news possible. Now the already dismal standard of umpiring will reach a new low. Why couldn't Taufel continue in the second match? Link to comment

Why couldn't Taufel continue in the second match? i think you are being slightly harsh. Umps had a decent match with only 2 or 3 poor decisions in 4 and a bit days Link to comment
coffee_rules
Bowden had a Delhi Belly, I think. Koertzen is still beter than Harper or that WI umpire. Link to comment
DesiChap
This is just shuffling done by ICC as they had to find a quick replacement for Billy the goat. Too much is being read into this. Link to comment
