I don't see how people here are blaming Dhoni for short ball tactic. That was the strategy for getting these phaaast bowlers there wickets. Why must they suddenly change everything as soon as MJ came to the crease? Just keep bowling in the right areas like they did in the morning with an occasional short ball. If you bowl every ball short he would be sitting on the backfoot waiting for it. That is exactly what happened. If this was the first time Dhoni has made such blunders, I would have let it go. He has shown such idiocy on every overseas tour, where from a dominant position he gives away the advantage with poor captaincy.

One thing I have observed over these overseas tours is the team lacks the mental strength to win crucial moments and go all the way. We have seen this in Joburg, both tests in NZ and even in Adelaide. They get to great positions from where they can possibly win but let the advantage squander and let the opposition get back into the game. Even the win at Lord's was largely due to some poor batting by England. We could have easily lost that one if England batsmen kept their cool for about 20 minutes and didnt keep hooking every short ball. Unless the team learns to win the big moments and learn to handle pressure in crucial situations, we will keep seeing them lose games despite being in good positions.

It was Dhoni's plan at Lord's too. He clearly took credit for that. As I have explained before it was a fluke and worked against the English batsmen who played pathetic shots to nothing deliveries. English batsmen are in general susceptible to short balls. Australians OTOH eat them for breakfast if not bowled well. There was absolutely no need to bowl short after short. Dhoni sucks tactically it is not a new thing. You guys can back him as much as you want but some of us who are not biased fanboys of any cricketer can clearly see that he is a terrible captain in test cricket.

They are just brainless. After 3 short balls went to the boundary, call it damn quits and bowl good lines and lengths! All they had to do! But under dhoni, we give up. This is heartbreaking again, and im done. When india finally wins, then i'll come back

140+ well directed bouncers can trouble any batsman leave alone the tailenders. That was what happened with the top order. Dhoni can't help it with such poor bowling. No captain can.

Ishant does not bowl 140+. It was Ishant who let them off he hook by his harmless short balls.
