As a cricketer he captained as to 2 world cups . Most of the other players achievements are frankly mainly based individual stats in bilateral series

It makes him great LOI captain, not a great cricketer. For being a great cricketer, you need great achievement in batting or bowling.

A great ODI captain, great ODI batsman. Average Test captain, average test batsman. To be a great cricketer, all forms of the game matter. Tests are given preference. He still can be a great cricketer for India as he was more of an alrounder for us, but not before, SRT, Kapil, Sunny G, and Dravid. On Par with Sehwag and VVS.

^@bulbul I dont want to get into another ODI vs test debate as I have done it umpteen times .So I will put this as IMO ODI Great = Cricket Great for Indian fans I will change my opinion when I see regular crowds for test cricket in India

Your logic getting weirder... Tests run 5 days while ODI runs one only one day. So tests attract more viewers anyway [TV+Stadium]. Even if u take Indian fans preference for ODI cricket you cannot simply say Dhoni is greatest as you don't have data. PS : T20 is liked more than ODI in India now a days and Dhoni lost 4 T20 cups :winky:

Yuvraj is also great ODI player, but isn't considered a great. VVS was poor ODI player but is still considered a great. I would say Dhoni a great India player, but not ahead of several others.
