CSK Fan Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Leaving his personal cricketing aside, in terms of captaincy I think he didn't do much wrong. The armchair critics over complicate things bring in so many variables when the bowlers can't even do the basics right. End of the day, every test match is won by having competent fast bowlers. End of story. Look at those Pakistan teams few years back when they had Aamer, Asif, Gul etc. That team would collapse for less then 200 each innings. But they were always in the game because of their lethal bowling. If you ask Asif, Aamir, Gul to bowl short every ball or with a leg slip to save runs, they wouldn't have won anythign either. And Amir would have gone the same way Ishant would. End of story
CSK Fan Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Yep' date=' because this change in captaincy fixes everything right? /s[/quote'] So the solution is to never change a thing and continue with failure no matter what, right? Almost every bowler and batsman have been dropped and rotated except the captain. Brillaint idea
Sachin=GOD Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Can't put numbers... What about the historic test series win of England in India? Yeah...that one was really humiliating and any other captain would have resigned after that.
Raghav_12 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I think love was lost because of his stubbornness and infatuation with captaincy. We have had captains earlier for whom captaincy just a role and had no issue in giving it up at slightest hint. Sachin decided to quit captaincy and had no problem in playing under 4 subsequent captains. Dravid quit after a rarest of rare England series win. Kumble was a reluctant captain anyways. Ganguly also eventually played under other captains. But in Dhoni's case he anyway wanted to stick to captaincy and found it impossible to play once captaincy was not tenable any more. For other players whom we grew idolizing like Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly, playing cricket seemed to like a worship to which they were fully devoted to while for Dhoni it always looked like a career. For many, including me, it wasn't understandable, how a player of relatively mediocre talent like Dhoni can command that much control while people with supreme talents like Sachin, Dravid and Kumble looked just having average control on Indian cricket. and then there was last nail in coffin was his overt attempt to save a crook like Gurunathan for whom he lied in front of a judicial panel - that was his final fall from grace.
rkt.india Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 and then there was last nail in coffin was his overt attempt to save a crook like Gurunathan for whom he lied in front of a judicial panel - that was his final fall from grace. Any proof for that?
Sachin=GOD Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Any proof for that? Dhoni said in front of the Mudgal committee that Gurunath was not associated with CSK when in fact he was the team CEO/Team Principal.
rkt.india Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Dhoni said in front of the Mudgal committee that Gurunath was not associated with CSK when in fact he was the team CEO/Team Principal. Show me the exact quote. He was never asked this question at first.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Show me the exact quote. He was never asked this question at first. http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/cricket/ms-dhonis-stand-on-gurunath-meiyappan-contradicted-by-mudgal-report/ In its first report submitted to the Supreme Court, the Mudgal committee had stated “representatives of India Cements, who appeared before the committee, contended that Mr Meiyappan had no share holding in India Cements and hence cannot be considered as an owner of CSK. “Further, Mr M S Dhoni, Mr N Srinivasan, and officials of India Cements took the stand that Mr Meiyappan, had nothing to do with the cricketing affairs of Chennai Super Kings and was a mere cricket enthusiast supporting CSK,” the report stated. Marut Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Dhoni overstayed a bit in test cricket. He is still useful as a test player but not as a captain. Had he resigned captaincy at the end of the Aussie tour of 2012, he would have won more hearts.
Lord Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 In the end what will go down is that he was one of our best if not the best WK batsman with avg. of 38.In India he was almost as good as a specialist bat.Was good keeper vs spin but poor vs pace As captain,he'll be as remembered as taking us to No.1 as he will for overseas losses. But captaincy records always depend on other 10 men too so I don't look at them in isolation.Neither was he the sole reason for us doing well before 2011 nor was he sole reason for overseas losses imo. However he should have gone much earlier but what is also true is that before Kohli this series no one really looked good replacement.Other alternatives were doing worse than Rohit at home. Overall win% of 45 is not bad I guess. Time to move on.Kohli's era now :aha:
Lord Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 honestly speaking this guy lost respect form me when selectors choose to sack him but srini saved him ..after that each game he captained i felt it was wrong but i will never doubt his commitment he did not want to lose and felt bad i do not buy he does not cares he just was not good at away tests and that is perfectly ok .. That was in ODIs.It was a weird logic. We lost Tests but they dropped him even as a player from ODIs where he was still very good.In a way I'm glad that didnt happen as we won CT under him.Don't think Virat was as ready then too. Could have been dropped in Tests ofcourse

Lord Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 It was from all formats I think the captaincy he would not have been dropped form odis as batsman...no way .. Found this.It says they dropped him for ODIs but later adds he should have been dropped from Tests too :hmmm: http://www.wisdenindia.com/cricket-news/srinivasan-stepped-save-dhoni-amarnath/39812 With the Test series and their reputation on the line, India were dealt an unkind blow on Wednesday (December 12) when Mohinder Amarnath, the former selector, said N Srinivasan, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, had stepped in to overrule the selectors’ decision to dump Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the Test captain after the 4-0 drubbing in Australia earlier this year. A day before the all-important Test, Amarnath dropped the bombshell, telling television channel CNN-IBN, “All five selectors wanted Dhoni to be sacked after India were whitewashed in England and Australia, but the BCCI president intervened to allow Dhoni to continue as captain. “Selectors picked Virat Kohli as captain for the tri-series. Dhoni was dropped from the 17-man squad,†he said, adding that Dhoni didn’t deserve to be in the Test team on current performance. “If you see his track record for the last one year as captain, I am talking about Test matches, not one-day, he hasn’t done anything,†Amarnath said. “You give a run to a guy. I am not saying you should remove a guy overnight, but if you see a guy is failing again and again, I don’t think it is going to be possible to continue with the same guy. “I think he should be replaced in Test cricket. I am not talking shorter versions,†Amarnath insisted. “He is an asset there, he has done very well, he is a match-winner, but with the technique he has, I don’t see him do any wonders in Test cricket.†Amarnath was also vented out at the BCCI for deeming the selection committee powerless. “When you respect a person, you don’t ask questions…but my question here is you have a selection committee, those who think what is best for Indian cricket, then why are they not given free hand?†Amarnath’s tenure as selector came to an abrupt end after the BCCI decided not to extend his one-year contract, despite being the only one from the previous Krishnamachari Srikkanth-led selection committee to be eligible for an extension. Amarnath, who represented North Zone, was replaced by Vikram Rathour. Reacting to Amarnath’s side of the story, Srikkanth confirmed discussing the issue of Dhoni’s captaincy. “I admit the captaincy issue was seriously discussed (after the whitewash in Australia). We had a lengthy discussion about whether we should replace the captain or not,†Srikkanth told the same TV channel. “But what decision was taken, I cannot comment on it now. “There was huge pressure on everyone whether to let Dhoni continue (as captain) or not. Indian cricket is facing the same question today. I would not like to reveal what happened at the selection committee meeting (after the tour of Australia). Whatever has happened within the board, I would like to keep it as secret.â€
Old guy Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Please read next 3 paragraphs too ..it's confusing If you see his track record for the last one year as captain, I am talking about Test matches, not one-day, he hasn’t done anything,” Amarnath said. “You give a run to a guy. Lord Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Please read next 3 paragraphs too ..it's confusing lol says hes an asset and done well in ODIs yet dropped him :hmmmm2:
Old guy Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 He said I am not talking about shorter formats ... Maybe they wanted to take away captaincy from allbfornats but let him play in shorter formats under some one else .
Lord Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 He said I am not talking about shorter formats ... Maybe they wanted to take away captaincy from allbfornats but let him play in shorter formats under some one else . but why would they drop him from tri series squad. He clearly said that happened.
adi B Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Yeah criticizing someone and pointing out that he isn't a good test captain means "hating on him". What does appreciating him mean then' date=' lust for him? [/quote'] Haha
CSK Fan Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Yes' date=' Dhoni had said that Mayyappan was not involved in cricketing matters of CSK, which can be very much true and that does not make it a lie.[/quote'] Wasn't he there directly in the auction, bidding for players? How then is he not involved in cricketing matters?
