So definitely not over-rated. Negotiates almost all kind of deliveries. Bouncers, yorkers etc. We should stop treating him like a specialist bat. Once you treat him as a specialist bat he could fail under pressure. Rightnow he is just trying to play like a responsible tailender and It works for him.

I think his batting skill is very good for the batting position he bats in. But if you try to promote him up the order as someone is suggesting then it probably won't work.

But his batting has 2 zones from what I have seen: 1. His batting is either too good 2. Or too bad He is a clutch Test batsman. But can't play in Top 6 cos that needs a lot more practice. He doesn't leave deliveries well (its his unreal skill that he can play swing bowling and score runs without leaving but as a Top bat, you are likely to get out......he also an issue with ducking bouncers...he doesn't have any issue with bouncers but he can't hook it convincingly all the time). Basically he has the ingredients to be a Top 6 bat but that needs some major practice to sort out certain issues (like getting into the habit of leaving the good balls). Major practice takes time and I dunno if he has enough time to turn himself into a proper test bat without it affecting his bowling preparations. As of now.

Got some serious skills as a Test bat.

He could easily open the innings for his state with that test stats. But he doesn't do so which means he doesn't want to be treated like a specialist batsman.

There's no harm too.Its not like our regular no.6 are producing runs.So whats to lose? If it works,it can go a long way in us being able to play 5 bowlers and pick 20 wickets
VRV Singh Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 He is a better batsman than many previously touted 'allrounders' because he can play in partnerships rather than hitting a few quick fours and sixes and getting out. Good achievement.
