I think he changed it little bit and this is reason I don't like basing how to bowl how great bowlers did It does not work like that for everyone and you have to change length slightly for example broad bowled slightly shorter in Australia and if bowled length he bowls in England he will get smashed .. Many bowlers struggled in Australia like waqar and it was main,y because of length
Arey yaar in Australia bowlers struggle because margin of error of very low not because they bowled fuller as they are not consistent enough. You need a great discipline in Aus. You cant really bowl short in Australia just because there is bounce. There is a a reason that length is called good length, which is good everywhere, a length where batsmen are unsure whether to go back or play forward. A length where you hit top of off. That is why people talk about keeping things simple, but they usually make things complex by these theories that you need different lengths at different places. Most wickets will be on balls pitched in 6-8 meter good length area. It is not too full, not too short. Harris and Steyn bowl this same length all the time and are successful everywhere.

Steyn too bowled little different in Australia you can check it urself with hawkeye on cricinfo ..

Bowlers themselves have different length depending on how much bounce they get the batsman will come forward differently even if ball is pitched in same area Great bowlers know where to bowl on different pitches and how to get wickets in different way and I am not disagreeing what good length is but not every bowler hits it same number of times and I also agree Indian bowler need to find I between length where they keep batsman guessing but to say it's same length on every track regardless of bounce or movement is what I disagree with .

True .Length is diff for diff bowlers .As i have been saying we have diff type of bowlers you cannot expect aaron ,yadav to be like hazelwood.

6-8 isnt a big area. It is good length corridor, bowl anywhere in this region and you will be successful. It seems big only in numbers but when you bowl it isnt. It is difficult to hit even that area consistently if you haven't practiced enough. See bowling of Umesh and Shami. They struggle to put ball in that area. Regarding lengths, yes, bowlers have natural lengths that is why you see bowlers hitting this area consistently are more successful, example Steyn, Harris, Philander. Morkel's length is different, so, he isnt at that level as them. Regarding Pattinson, his natural length is fuller like he bowled in Aus 2012, but he was ineffective because of different reasons, was coming back from injury, down in pace due to lack of rhythm and so was inconsistent, also those pitches were slow and spin friendly in that Ashes, made to blunt Aussie pace attack. That is why Harris did well as he was very consistent in that corridor of uncertainty. You hit that area, corridor of uncertainty, 4-5 out of 6 balls, you will do well. Anything fuller than 6 is half-volley waiting to be dispatched for 4. Our bowlers bowled a lot in that area in England and were hit for boundaries most times. See how many boundaries were hit from that length. You never bowl too full anywher. That I. too full

I am not saying bowl full but I between length is also different depending on pitch . Anyway we can agree to disagree ...
In between length is same no matter which pitch you are bowling, mostly 6-7 meter area and it takes a lot of practice to hit that area consistently on a 20 meter pitch. It only changes if batsman batting out of the crease. When we watch a match on tv, pitch looks very small, but it is a big area, about 66 feet and to hit that area consistently with great accuracy is certainly going to take a lot of practice and concentration.

Yaar good length is good length in all countries. I have not seen successful bowlers bowling different lengths in these four countries. McGrath bowled same length and got wickets whether it was Aus or England. This length thing is just an excuse given for failures.
Mcgrath also had bounce. He was 6.5 feet tall. That line and length wont work everywhere you have to adjust according to the conditions.

Pretty dim future if Yadav is the future. But what I'm surprised about is that why is Punjab not producing any good fast bowlers? They are probably the most physically able people to do so in India.

Right length is right length everywhere. McGrath bowled most often same length everywhere. Length is same whether you play in England or Australia.

Agreed. There's a reason as to why it's called the good length. :haha:

It's not 100% accurate that a good length is the exactly the same on every pitch. Usually that's just something that is used as a coaching aid to simplify the process for young bowlers. A good length is a good length because the batsman is not sure whether to go forward or back. That in itself indicates the bounce of the pitch is a huge factor. The height of the batsman is also another huge factor. With a taller batsman, the good length becomes a bit shorter than with a shorter batsman. On a bouncier pitch, the good length becomes a tad fuller. That being said we are talking about 1 foot here or there, at most, in terms of adjustments.

He is already 27. How much more time he needs to improve! It is just frustrating to see him not learning anything. Hope' date=' at least, Aaron gets better quickly in a year or so. Dont want both of our quickest pacers fade away. Becoming pessimistic now.[/quote'] You have to also remember that he was dropped for the team for no apparent reason. So he is making a comeback after 2 years. It is not not easy. He should have been given an extended run. When Ishant Sharma can be persisted for so long, Why not him? Umesh had a much better start to his career.

Let us rewind back we started the series bowling full expecting the ball will swing aaron does swing it but shami not much so the plans were wrong when warner took to that length with no movement we pulled back run rate in all tests when we got warner out. when we bowled off stump and in the channel we had them in trouble before again going for short stuff.good Length for every batsman may be diff when there is no swing or movement guys like watson who plant the front foot or warner who bats outside of the crease.Yes good length is good length we did not hit it consistently but yadav aaron are swing bowlers and raw i was disappointed with shami ishant as its their forte.

Problem was execution. We bowled from round the stumps and gave warner too much width or bowled too full. Ishant bowled same length but more tightly and was effective. Harris and Hazlewood didnt get swing too, but kept bowling in that area effectively.

^ Why are these guys not patient enough? They want a wicket every 3rd ball of an over by bowling rubbish deliveries. Coaching issue?
Like batsman needs temperament and concentration while batting. Bowler needs them too. They lack that and dont concentrate enough on the areas they want to bowl. It has a lot to do with practice too. If you dont do it during practice, you cannot wake up and do that in a test match.

We are so quick to blame coaches. These guys aren't kids. They are adults that have been playing the game for 10-15 years. They should be able to work it out themselves. Its a patience and discipline thing. In the sub-standard and diluted Ranji comp, their patience is never really tested.
