diga Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Regressive statement' date=' disappointing. The only tests we won were because pacers bowled well in those games overseas..[/quote'] west indies series/headingley test in 2002 were won by playing 2 spinners if I am not mistaken
rkt.india Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 west indies series/headingley test in 2002 were won by playing 2 spinners if I am not mistaken which WI series?
rkt.india Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 west indies series/headingley test in 2002 were won by playing 2 spinners if I am not mistaken There were 3 seamers too at Headingly who had also played a crucial role. Also, we had a spinner like Kumble with experience of 10-12 years of test cricket.

West Indies series of 2006-07 which we won.

West Indies series of 2006-07 which we won. Banger was a seam alrounder and was as quick as BK. He played as a third seeamer Both pacers and semaers had picked equal amount of wickets. My point was, you need pacers to do the job, only then spinners can come into play. No spinner will win you a match on his own in these conditions. WI conditions help spinners these days and are slow like in India. Also, in that series, Munaf Patel was the second highest wicket taker among pacers and both Munaf and Sreesanth had played a crucial role. You must understand WI pitches help spinners more these days and also we had spinners like Kumble and Bhajji in tandem.
India-KXIP fan Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 We need to developed pacers to win overseas. These rubbish solutions wont win us there. Agreed
Cricket_Hacker Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 pacers cant be developed overnight.2 spinners overseas minimum(no jadeja/axar in overseas tests)
rkt.india Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 pacers cant be developed overnight.2 spinners overseas minimum(no jadeja/axar in overseas tests) How will they developed if they dont play matches.
kosingh Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Development has to take place well before they play test cricket. Refinement can take place at the test level, but not so much development. Identify and give a lot of attention to pacers at the regional under 19 level. Comprehensive all round support including proper physical training, dietician support, strength and conditioning, bowling action guidance, bowling with SG, kookaburra and Duke balls, etc. Although our national junior teams do alright, our regional junior teams are a joke, ruined by lack of proper support, major nepotism in selections etc. Problem also is that bowling is just not cool in india. And that's mainly because we haven't had many ultra marketable iconic bowlers. Sure kumble, Srinath and Zaheer have had very careers and have been magnificent for india. But they just don't have the same icon factor that Wasim, Warne, Murali have. The icons in india are, without a doubt, the batsmen. The Tendulkars, Sehwags, Dravids, Kohlis, Yuvrajs. The only truly iconic marketable indian bowler has been Kapil Dev.

Most indian fans loved Kapil because he was an entertaining stroke-maker in an age of slow batsmanship. Kumble has won more tests for India than any other Indian cricketer. Taken 600+ test wickets. But he just one of the good past players now !! Uthappa is more popular than him !!!!

As the saying from yesterday goes "kapil dev me chhaka Mara, pant phatti imran ki"
bharat297 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Yes' date=' they are not, but spinners will come into play if your fast bowlers do the job well. If they dont, no spinner alone is going to win you matches there. This suggestion of playing 3 spinners was ridiculous. You dont have even one good spinner doing well there, but talking about 3. They were not benching out Warne's or Macgil's for 3 seamers.[/quote'] I don't think he was saying to always pick 3 spinners, but rather to assess the conditions of the pitch and determine how your wickets are going to come.

Australia did well playing just one spinner in same conditions.
