Why are Australia so good?

They win 3 WCs in a row (unlucky not to win 4), they've been the best test nation we've seen over 10+ years (ever in fact), then they rebuild after a lean 3 year period and suddenly become the no1 test team again and become favourites for the WC, and their current WC squad looks, well, you know, awesome. How do they do it?

Australia is so hyped up for this WC. Only Warner and Smith are in form. Other batsman can chip in but they are hardly match winners. Their bowling is one dimensional. My prediction, they wont cross Semi Finals.

They have a fearsome bowling attack, they are the best fielding side, they have heavy hitters all the way to 10, 11 if they don't play a specialist spinner, and they have the quality to nullify 2 paced pitches, luck has nothing to do with it. India has been in oz for months and they haven't even come close to beating them, that ain't gonna change. Won't cross the semis? Lol.

They are better than subcontinent countries because of their vastly more advanced infrastructure. They are better than South Africa' date=' England etc because of luck.[/quote'] Luck? We destroyed SA in SA not that long ago, in both formats, and we all know what happened to England last time they came down under.

They play to win, period. When Smith delayed the declaration in the 3rd test, the Aussie press criticized him for that. They preferred the team to lose by trying to win rather than settle for the safety of a draw. I think it is that attitude which separates them from the rest of the pack.

I don't mean that Australia beat them due to luck. Just that Australia is able to produce more skilled cricketers than South Africa, England etc due to luck.

Australia is good at home and home like conditions. Bring them to India and they will be like deer caught in headlights. This Australian team is not good in the absolute sense. They are no match for the Aussie team of the late 90s and 00s. They are no match for the WI side of the 80s, who were good under all conditions. They are not even as good as the Indian team of the late noughties.

Of course they aren't. But does that mean any team not as good as the 2003 Australian team is bad?

They are so good because their domestic system is competitive.Imran khan once compared the intensity of sheffield shield cricket with test cricket. There are only 6 teams in first class cricket and they absorb all the talent, only the best survive in the system. It can be hard for average players to brake in.
