Who should be our no 7, Jadeja or Ashwin?

Very soon we will get into the business end of the tournament and it is good to see our top 6 spend some quality time in the pitch at various stages in the tournament. However Jadeja's batting is a big letdown, guy looks desperate at the crease, just swings wildly hoping he gets lucky. While he was useful a year back with his cameos the present version of him is a liability with the bat. On the other hand Ashwin is a very good batsman in tests we all know. He has decent technique, good temperament and very intelligent. He cannot slog at no 8, he is more of a classical player. Jadeja can slog sometimes. Won't it be a better idea to have Ashwin at no 7 after Dhoni and ask him to play like it is a test match, his test SR is pretty good actually. If he plays orthodox cricket instead of his attempts at slogging I think we have a dependable player and will give confidence to the guy at the other end. Watching Jadeja bat makes me nervous, bats like a headless chicken, wonder what it will do to the non striker. Now there may be a counter argument that quick runs are needed at the end but all Jadeja does is miss half the balls and ends up with SR of 50 anyways. Sir isn't the same force with the bat he was in 2013-14.

On these pitches, both dont seem to have ability to hit boundaries. The most you can expect from them is take singles and give strike to the other batsman. Ashwin seems to have better technique and ability to rotate strike than Jadeja. Perhaps on the smaller grounds in NZ, Jadeja can bat ahead of Ashwin because he can slog more effectively.

When was the last time Jadeja's slogs came off in the death? His latest scores(after England tour 2014, not including DNB): 6(16)....came in 41st over 4(9)....45th over 2(2).... 47th over 1*(1)....45th over 2(3)....48th over 5(9)....40th over 3(5)....48th over 2(4)....47th over 13.(23).... 23rd over Last time he scored above 13 runs was against WI, 1st ODI in Kochi 33*(36) and even in that match he was dropped twice and never got going. Can't find a worse no 7 batsman in world cricket than him, cause of big concern for Team India.

Only solution.Play Binny instead of Rohit. Should give a batting as well as bowling option if things fail in knockouts somewhere.

India should be flexible with the situation. I thought yesterday was made for Ashwin Ashwin----> strength: Solid defence and calm mind weakness: sucks in running between wickets and cannot slog. Jadeja----> strength : good runner between wickets and can slog con: poor defence temperament and technique against pace
