Really loved the way the Irish players doffed their hats while shaking hands with Dhoni et al at the end of the match... time to give these guys test status and see them improve leaps and bounds..

NareshK Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 If they can get 2-3 good pacers, they will be a very good ODI side because their batting looks good. Test cricket is a different ball game to be honest. They could be good in limited overs but may not be able to sustain that performance over 5 days. They first need to find some pacers and play one day games and 4 day games regularly against A teams or test sides and if they can keep improving, they could get test status within 2-3 years. Problem is these associate sides mostly play amongst themselves and dont get to play against big teams which hinders their growth.

It does not have the baggage of being a protestant or catholic sport. Its quite big in northern ireland and around the dublin area.

I suppose I would have taken that at the start as it makes the game a bit of a contest, but considering the position we were in, to go from 204-3 to 259 all out is very disappointing especially considering we normally finish well. Bowling was never going to trouble India although early dropped catches certainly dont help them. Had we sent Balbirnie, a decent player of spin plus right handed, in at 4 I think we'd have done better as Niall totally killed the momentum while Porterfield was rotating strike effectively enough. All in all a respectable showing, but for gods sake what was the thought process behind playing Thompson ahead of Young? Absolutely zero sense. Must be something going on behind the scenes. Also, Stirlings knock was so bloody brilliant to watch. He gave it away in the end when a big score was for the taking, but seeing him stand up to Shami/Yadav/Mohit and treat them like the Canadian bowling attack was glorious to witness. Shame he didnt stay in, felt a 120 plus was there for the taking.

In our own conditions those bowlers are actually pretty decent. Hell Sorenson who was been useless so far has a 5-fer vs Australia A which included Steve Smith and other test players. Places like Zim,Ireland or England I think our bowlers could be useful. Outside of those places though we would be hammered.
Number Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 They need to find 2 bowlers with pace in 135-140 bracket. Then they will be a really good one day side. I am really surprised with their batting in this world cup. Their batsmen's game sense and temperament is up there with one of the best sides.
