Best Finisher

People are way to nostalgic of the past. Making it sounded like Bevan faced Michael Holding day in, day out. He faced the odd great bowler coupled with a whole load of good to average bowlers. People spend way too much time analysing pointless stats to paint a picture they choose. You bring your subjective views on which were good bowling attacks or not. Watch the game, know the players who oppositions spend hours trying to counter in dressing rooms. Dhoni by far is the greatest finisher ever.
For what? Literally doing nothing against Aus, SA in their own backyards? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Best Finisher Couldn't believe how delusional fans are? For example if I say someone like Sangakkara is better than Dravid or Sachin purely because of his stats I'll be attacked left, right and centre telling me how good bowlers of those days were, how hard pitches were and scoring away from home as better way judge a player and HTBs and FTBs and Minnow bashers. But everything just goes out of the window for Dhoni. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Get used to it when posting here, Indian fans are borderline delusional when it comes to their players, many rate Dhoni ahead of Gilchrist as a wkt keeper batsman, I kid you not!!

Power hitting ability in batting friendly conditions and against poor bowling standards than Bevan faced. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes the pitches have gotten better and boundaries smaller no doubt.Odi bowling Dhoni did face likes of brett lee who was one of the best odi bowlers and most times aus ,sa,eng 2009-11 at home have good attacks. Bevan probbaly faced better bowlers but he never had the power hitting ability akin to dhnoi.

People tend to forget bowlers like Steyn, Malinga, Narine, Ajmal, Gul and others have been exceptional, but its easier to paint bowlers of the past as great and current cricketers as part time park cricketers to suit your argument. I mean those batsmen had to face bowlers of amazing skill such as Mark Ealham, Venkapathy Raju, Doda Ganesh, Mark Waugh, Pat Symcox. That sounds like a really threatening line-up!! People blame pitches for everything, but remember the attitude towards the game has totally changed. Look at England if you want to see how teams played ODI cricket in the 90's, nowadays the approach and to really take the game to the opposition, which also involves greater risk. Aus/Sa are not the be all and end all of great teams, there have been many occasions they have put out piss poor attacks. Like when Sachin scored a double against SA, they had good bowlers who weren't bowling great. Why didn't Bevan average a gazillion when playing in the sub-continent as its runs for free there, right?

He has 3 fifties in Aus and SA in their own countries in 22 inns, all of them are lost. He has scores of 17*, 15*, 36, 38, 5, 44* in win matches. In those three reasonable scores Yuvraj, Raina contributed better than Dhoni. I couldn't find anything to agree that he's the best finisher, especially if you can't do it against the only two good bowling units of your generation in their own backyard. your post was about losses against nzl and england and i dont think most of them were losses

nobody is saying that msd is miles ahead of bevan.bevan was a fantastic finisher of his generation and faced some quality attacks.dhoni on the other hand is the best finisher of this generation but the quality of attack is a bit inferior to that in the 90s and off course powerplays, but dhoni is way ahead of bevan when it comes to power hitting and when the rrr is high.so basically both have their own pros, hardly any cons and i believe u cant compare players from different eras/generations

Just now I checked and he has played just 10 inns vs Aus, SA, Eng in their respective backyards combined and averages 38 at 85 with 3 fifties. Not bad though but not fantastic as well. If I take out Eng, then its just 5 inns with an average of 15 at 59, not enough sample though.

But he's obviously a better hitter than Bevan even as good a hitter as anyone right now. But it does not hide the fact that he hardly won matches away from the Sub-Continent.

Well Bevan averaged 52 at 74 in SC. 61 at 73 vs India in India 110 at 88 vs Pak in Pak 30 at 68 vs SL in SL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Fair enough, numbers don't capture everything & I'd agree with that. Chew on this: A panel of 50 experts assembled by cricinfo recently shortlisted Dhoni alongside Gilly, Akram, Tendulkar and King Viv as nominees for the greatest ODI cricketer ever. I did not see Bevan in that list. Why do you think that is ?

How does one be the greatest finisher without the ability to hit boundaries. If you are so enamoured by that era, i would understand Klusener as a pick. But not Bevan. A man who cannot hit more than 3 fours everytime he scores 75-80 runs is NOT a finisher. Show me the time when the RRR was over 7 or 8 (which is the 90s equivalent of it going past 10 today) and Bevan took them home.

That's what they thinks. I'm telling what I think I guess. And I think I've shown some stays to back me. Why do you think Dhoni has such a poor record against Aus and SA, two good teams of his generation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have no doubt that Dhoni has the ability to hit boundaries much more than Bevan. But it wasn't need much in those period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, it was. Thats how Jadeja (Ajay) made his mark, same with Klusener. It wasn't needed in the Aussie lineup because Aussies had the strongest ODI batting lineup in the 90s but it was needed by other teams. And that is why Dhoni is better as a finisher- he could've made it to the Aussie team back then, he also could've made it in any other team. But Bevan ? I would rather choose MSD than Bevan as a #6 if the top six are not as strong as the Aussies to let Bevan putter to a 70 off of 100 balls for a victory.

LOL! Does this guy bother to do any research ? Dhoni averages 50+ in Australia. And that counts as literally nothing ?

I am sorry, Bevan is an ordinary ODI batsman. I'd rate ME Waugh, Gilly, Hayden, Ponting, Symonds et al ahead of Bevan as ODI batsmen. That's almost the entire team Bevan palyed with. This guy would struggle to make it to the top 5 Aussie batsmen of his own era. If you are comparing Gilly to Dhoni, then i'd agree with you. I dont have to look at stats, regardless of what the numbers say, i'd admit Gilly is the better ODI bat. Bevan is not good enough.

This is even sillier than your other claims. So Gilly, Symonds, Haydos & others were hitting boundaries that were not needed ? If you are an opponent who would you fear ? Gilly & Symonds or Bevan ? Opponents fear Dhoni, am not sure i can say the same about Bevan.
