vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 Don't agree .Clarke always had issues against short stuff ever since the back issues flared up. Remember Ishant working over him in the 2010 series with short stuff and getting him out .That too in Indian conditions [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHs_9K61IUM]Ishant Sharma hostile bouncer & epic wicket of Michael Clarke, who walks!!!!!! - YouTube[/ame]
BeautifulGame Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Think SA are the best .Kiwis are very good as well. Apart from Watson Clarke most of Aussie bat r good against Short stuff.Warner Smith Finch Marsh r all good players of short stuff We r probably 4th best .But miles better than the other remaining teams.
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 We are not giving enough credit to guys like M Vijay who grew up on wickets like Chepauk, played with such authority against short stuffs from some of the fastest bowlers going around in the world.

Finch is a slogger.. I won't put him there. Warner is the only guy i rate well against short balls. Smith is not entire a convincing puller like Rahane or Kohli.
rkt.india Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Basing my opinion on the 4 overseas test series. It is immaterial what is going to happen. They pick up the short balls much faster than most of the guys. I know short ball is uncomfortable for everyon.. Good ones. But Aussies got into weird position . Clarke looked like Mohammad Azharuddin against short ball. Punter was much better. Warner is good typically i agree. Wonder increase in docile Australian pitches is turning them into FTBs. 3 out of 4 test pitches were absolute roads. Gabba was good and our batsmen struggled there with bounce against Johnson. Kohli, PUjara, Rahane all got on bounce.
rkt.india Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Infact in the last 2 years or so Murali Vijay looked the most comfortable against short ball because he left ball. He had no intention to play. In ODi,s first instinct is to play and that is where the problem starts.

Kohli' date=' PUjara, Rahane all got on bounce.[/quote'] These teams struggled only on roads. England struggled on roads, Australia played on a road at the adelaide oval. None of the pitches were bouncy. On bouncier pitches these guys would struggle even more.

Even the ball Watson tried to evade was done in the most awkward fashion.
rkt.india Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 SA is fine. But that quality is dwindling among Aussies. Watson used to be decent against short balls. May be exposure of too many flat decks these days. Lehmann warned Pakistan of bounce on the pitch prior to QF. It is the Aussies who had struggles against short balls. everyone has issues if short balls are hurled at 150KPH on a hard pitch. No matter how good a batsmen you are, not every time you can play it well or hit it well. Even likes of Ponting and Warner have been hit off bouncers. Yadav has picked Warner several times on bouncers. It is all about pace and direction. They are good against bouncers when they are not as quick as they were yesterday.

Infact Virat Kohli meets the ball well infront even when he stays well outside the crease. You gotta admit they have the talent to pick up the length much quicker than the guys who grew up on bouncier surfaces. Same with Rahane. They pick the length very early.

It has more bounce and pace due to grass they have left since then so that it does not break. We didnt see the same bounce in test series.

I am talking about all batsmen in general, not just Indians.
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 I am talking about all batsmen in general' date=' not just Indians.[/quote'] Comfort level varies from people to people. Not everyone is going to react to short ball identically including the very good short ball. There are some who show better judgement.. Some who don't ala Raina. Adelaide pitch was pretty slow . Even Padosis had awful lot of time to play 152k from Starc after pitching. But Riaz was only clocking 145 Watson was awfully late . I would put that down to bad form.

Comfort level is different but still there is no batsman who wont have issue against good fast accurate short pitch bowling. Under lights, ball does zip more than in the day. Bowling under lights is an advantage in Australia. I believe bouncer from a shorter guy who is quick will reach to the batsman quicker than a bouncer from a tall guy as it has to travel less distance from a short guy delivery from a lower trajectory especially on a pitch like this.
addicted4444 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 The current Indian batting line up is better as a whole against the short ball than any other batting lineup in this World Cup. Aussies best short ball players are aging and have lost their short ball playing abilities. SA really doesn't have very good batting outside Amla and ABDV and the former isn't a very good short ball player. NZ batting lineup is also extremely limited.
Vijy Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 By no means are we the best players of the short ball.

Smith plays short ball well as does finch and warner to some extent. Also williamson, taylor ,guptil play short ball well. But overall we are best top order against short ball particularly in tests .
amiret Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 No doubt. Especially on fast bouncy wkts in Test Matches. Indian batsmen have been the best against Short pitch and also full pitch bowling for at least 15- 20 years.
