Vilander Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Wahab's quickest was 94 mph plus that day which is close to 152K. His average was 90 mph' date=' 145K. It is not just that one day. He had also bowled well against SA.[/quote'] nope. you are wrong RKT. Wahab is faster than Umesh definite but his average is not 90mph. He bowls faster in certain important games, like Ind pak 2011 semi , Aus-pak 2015 semi yesterday.

Also has a different line of attack (leftie) and is taller.
Vilander Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 If you want to trouble decent players of short deliveries you need to have pace along with precision. Watson looked at ease when he was playing Sohail who was bowling around 138k-143k. Wahab was getting them near the ears at 150k consistently and that made all the difference. Our bowlers have taken most wickets of short deliveries against the weaker teams. Amla was the only dismissal but that was because he wasn't expecting it. If Mohit is persistent with short deliveries, he'll be taken to the cleaners even by Amla. OK. So if batsman does not expect a delivery it makes the bowlers effort less impressive ?
Vilander Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Wahab is faster than Umesh. Also has a different line of attack (leftie) and is taller. yup , u see i have not disagreed to those things. But Wahabs pace is not 90 mph avg in all games i have seen him bowl. He is not Akthar.

Wahab was clearly quicker only in the Aussie match. Also, he has bowled the occasional quicker delivery than Umesh in this WC. We can't really say that Wahab is clearly quicker than Umesh. He has a steeper bouncer though.

I agree :giggle: It's hard for him to be faster than himself.
MK55 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 OK. So if batsman does not expect a delivery it makes the bowlers effort less impressive ? No.. All I meant to say is if you are bowling the short ball at 135-140k which Mohit does on most occasions, you can use it as a surprise weapon. You cannot put a short leg in place, bowl 70-80 percent short deliveries and then induce a false shot by intimidation.
Bumper Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Wahab's spell was surreal that he himself would find it hard to replicate - kinda like the SRT innings against Pakistan in 2003 world cup. You don't see those passages of play every day. It is the angle & the lines Wahab bowled that troubled the Aussie batsmen more -- 140 or 150k would not have mattered as much. The fact that Wahab was a left armer bowling to RHB's helped his case further. The batsmen pretty much had no escape, they had to get into uncomfortable positions and keep those bouncing grenades out. Umesh has the pace, but i doubt he has the accuracy to bowl a 5 over spell like that. But i don't think it is important to be intimidating. Results matter more. I am hoping for conditions that favor swing and spin at Sydney and more importantly hoping to win the toss. That's about the only way India can manage to compete in the semis. All you fans, don't get too excited. There was a lot more hype in 2003 prior to the finals and we all know how it went. Don't hope for a miracle, just lie low and be prepared for a disaster. I'll be happy if we get a good game in the semis. I don't want to see us lose a one sided game.

SELVAM Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Lol at this thread :hysterical:. Umesh and shami is better bowlers than wahab. In this worldcup they bowled better than wahab. Hope wahab learn how to bowl with new ball from umesh and shami:two_thumbs_up:

Obviously, the left arm angle, the somewhat slinging action played its role in raising the difficulty for the batsmen. But you cannot discount pace like that. Clarke himself admitted that it was the quickest spell of sustained short bowling and the pace also compounded the issues. We cant really comment on the relative contribution of the factors or what made it more difficult. May be if the same short deliveries were bowled at 85-87 miles, Watson could have got into better positions or would have timed the pull shots well. We don't know. All I can say is everything fell into place and challenged the batsmen. And not always do you get rewards for it. Aaron had also bowled a fiery spell in the second innings of the first test and in the first innings of Brisbane but will lower accuracy. In the first innings he had Shaun Marsh all over the place but unfortunately Rahane dropped the catch after he mistimed one. He also troubled Watson in the first test but even there he some how managed to survive and some edges had gone to boundaries. And I agree with what you said about Umesh. He has the pace but it would be too risky to let him adopt the same plan of sustained short pitched bowling. And if there's any help in the wicket, he can probably use a different plan to exploit it.
Shogun Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 What happened to Varun Aaron?? He was overlooked for the WC, toiling in the domestics now. He is the fastest Indian bowler (and very good with bouncers though doesn't move the ball much) so it was a no-brainer to select him in the squad atleast.
govinda Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 use short ball as surprise wepon esp for calke and wtaoo
