"Personally, I think we should look at four-day Test cricket and play 105 overs a day starting at 10.30am in the morning, and finish when you finish as all the grounds now have lights," Graves, who takes up his role in May, told the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) website. The ECB could not itself introduce four-day Test matches, but it could push for changes to the Test format in international negotiations. Expanding on the idea, Graves added: "Every Test match would start on a Thursday, with Thursday and Friday being corporate days and then Saturday and Sunday the family days. "From a cost point of view, you'd lose that fifth day, which would save a hell of a lot of money from the ground's point of view and the broadcasters. I would look at that." The proposals first came to light earlier this year after an ECB document entitled 'Strategy Conversation Summary' was leaked. Reacting to the leak, the ECB revealed that it was "in the early stages of formulating a long-term strategy for the game in England and Wales, which we anticipate will take a year to complete". Graves and new ECB chief executive Tom Harrison have also held initial talks about future proposals for the English county championship and a possible 'English Premier League' Twenty20 competition.

Best part is starting on Thursday..all said and done if matches are still played in pattas this is not going to make any difference.

Lol, results are hard to come in 5 days, and you think 4 days will make it better to watch or bring more result. They should think more about curbin and changing odi rules and the way it is being handled, and things like schedule etc and making sure there are no crap 2 match test series between teams, instead of this futile talks like 4 day games. worst idea ever. test cricket is surviving because the number of draws have gone down and we are getting some exciting matches. it is a challenge to complete 90 overs a day how will they manage more.

Not possible in India, sun sets here very early unlike England and on most days in winter we will struggle to finish 75 overs. Can't ECB be sensible just for once? They want to eliminate spin bowling by ensuring they don't get to bowl in 5th day tracks. Horrible horrible idea.

5 days 450 overs.. 4 days 105 overs is 420..not much difference. Everything hinges on stadium having good flood lights...

Hands down test cricket. This format is the most boring-est format ever! Who the actual fudge have time to see a damn test match these days anyways in this modern world?

105 overs a day would be too tiring for the players. This might prevent the bowlers and fielders from giving their best. The quality of the game will go down for sure.

Cricket used to be a game played by the Lords and rich aristocrats in England. These people had much wealth, and did not have any day jobs, and they invented this game for time pass - for playing all day long. Note that initially the matches used to be timeless, so they could keep playing for days at a time. Cricket was never meant for poor nations but the idea caught up with Indian princes, kings and zameendars for the same reasons. As time passed, the common man picked up the game though timeless or five day games are totally inappropriate for the typical busy farmers of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
