Join some Physics forums, and you will get a lot better explanation for your questions. Forces like time, space, matter, energy and gravity dance together giving us some magical and miraculous outcomes. Some of it we understand, and a lot of it we don't. But this is where we need to stay patient. Just 2 generations ago, we couldn't fly, now we are on Mars! We are still in our infantile stages of knowledge, and it will take a long time to mature to a point where we can answer more such questions with some authority.

I would like to read/watch more about space. Can anyone recommend some books/videos (watched Cosmos recently & liked it and have watched some shows on discovery - that's all).......Not really advanced stuff as that would go over my head. Just basic stuff for beginners.

Read about string theory. I think it's fascinating although it's not proven. Some of the famous string physicists are michio kaku, Brian Greene, Edward witten, Juan maldacena, and Leonard susskind.

Some of the famous string physicists are michio kaku' date=' Brian Greene, Edward witten, Juan maldacena, and Leonard susskind.[/quote'] Won't I need any previous knowledge about how the universe works in order to understand string theory? Or some knowledge of the Standard Model? I'm really a beginner in this topic, having not read much after school (and that obviously was quite elementary) and only watched some videos since then.
