dial_100 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 So I get what big bang theory is. But what I do not understand is how all these galaxies were formed so systematically. Obviously the force that is tying all the matter of galaxy has been a black hole. But why science has not explained what black hole exactly is. What matter forms this unknown thing. So far 3 very very main things of the universe are black holes, Dark matter and Dark energy. Apart from their simple gravitational characteristic, science has not explained anything yet. How can there be something that exists and physics doesn't have explanation on that? Experts..
coffee_rules Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We need develop and understand multi-dimensional laws of physics which is only in 3D so far. Black holes are more recent since the 70s. Matter causes gravity, which is a theory which is not yet explained how!
gattaca Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Aren't we limited by technology ? Isn't physics mostly observational and theories derived from it ? The limitation seems to be telescope here. The only device we use to monitor black holes.

How could something so massive and big be explained so quickly and simply, especially by things which derived from that same power. Maybe all this is an illusion :winky:

I watched some documentary that claimed that these massive black holes are nothing but massive stars. I didn't know that black holes are nothing but stars. Then later they claimed that there are over 100m black holes in our galaxy alone? I got totally confused with it. I thought there is one per galaxy. And if big massive star is a black hole then it is not as much of a mystery after all is it?

A star that has collapsed under the weight of its own gravity.

I am sure they are collapsed dead stars or how else will they have this massive gravity. I was surprised to hear about it. I thought there is only 1 per galaxy but with this theory they are stars with heavy material with lot of gravity. But any material doesn't have a quality to absorb light and not let it reflect unless they are black rocks like coal substance. Plus, if they are solid stars then anything colliding with it should create lot of energy. But according to scientist, huge stars and gasses get sucked into the massive black hole and nothing escapes from it. According to physics that we know, it is impossible. It is all very confusing.

Telescopes are in existence for few centuries now. Very powerful telescopes are in use for over few decades now. Question is simple. Whatever that black hole is made of, how can it absorb a substance and the collision would not emit energy?
