The Outsider
Chopra is good and IMO should have been selected ahead of Karthik for the sole purpose of having a specialist short leg catcher as a substitute. Remember, the Aussies have caught on to the English trick of using superb fielders as substitutes in their home matches. Karthik cannot field in any position with polish and if Dhoni were to get injured it's only a 10 hour flight. Link to comment

bharat297
I don't get it. Indian FC structure is not like Australia where the highest run and wicket getters end up as good international cricketers in general. Why it's not like that and how to make it like that is an entirely different debate and topic. Fact is we have had the likes of Ajay Sharma piling up runs in domestic cricket, so to choose the international talent in such a scenario is not a straightforward exercise of running a statistical query. Ultimately cricketers of the caliber of Dravid, Tendulkar, Kumble, and Ganguly have thrown their weight behind Sehwag and their cricketing experience is in the region of 500 test matches. Its mainly to do with how different the pitches in India are to the rest of the world. If we start to make a variety of pitches including some with a lot of bounce and carry (we could use a clay-base for the pitch, like they do in Perth), and some with a lot of green, some traditional spinning decks, and some run-beds, then and only then, can we truly use domestic cricket as a gauge for international success. Furthermore, far too many Ranji teams. I think Duleep trophy should replace Ranji as the major tournament, and Duleep should be played out in a season-long round-robin format with both 1-day and 4-day games. Ranji should be for the players that don't make their zone team for Duleep. Link to comment
Brainfade
He has every right to be disappointed. He articulates his disappointment honestly, while still being objective about Sehwag's potential, and wishes him well. What did one expect? "Viru da man! I luv he go to Roo-land. I don't care 'bout me, man! Viru da man."???? Link to comment

dial_100
I know Chopra should definitely play against weak sides at home cuz Viru Dada cant even perform there... Boy this is worst ever thing of the year. First when I said he should have been thrown out of the team b4 WC. RD persisted with him with big hopes....All in vain. Now Kumble does the same thing. And as for seniors supporting Viru, I think they support everyone. By saying they support Viru we are saying that they favour seniors over youngers. Which is not true. Sehwag cannot fail in this series or else people will be very critical about his selection. Good thing is we are not reliying on what he is capable of. If I were Kumble I would have played Yuvraj singh as he has performed consistently. I dun give damn about tripple and double centuries cuz I know VS has clearly been sorted out by Aussies. He will be a walking wkt there... Link to comment
Rajan
I am really feeling for Chopra. He is not an FTB or domestic bully. he had played against LEE, Gillespie, Akthar and proved himself as a solid opener.in a batting line up like ours, u dont have to score 98 before lunch to deserve a place in a 5 day test.holding one end up and putting a price on his wicket, certainly contributed to our performance in last tour to Australia as well as 2004 friendship series in pak.. Even if he could not have been accommodated ahead of sehwag, at least the selectors should have had the courtesy to inform him of the decision and boost his confidence by telling him that he is very much there in their plans, keep performing well and maintain fitness. Is that expecting too much? I somehow have the feeling that he would be sent to australia by the 3rd test to fill in for some one.I hope the selectors dont try out Dinesh Karthik as an opener in case any one fails.
