as much as i think he is not india limited overs material, india have a weak ass middle order and in the context of this series its a big blow.

Huge blow :(( Lucky that he won India the series before getting injured...Hope the inspiration he provided will motivate others in team to raise their game :two_thumbs_up:

some of these players as well karn sharma, rayadu. how do you get so easily injured at that age? unless its something like split finger webbing while fielding i am afraid these people just dont have the fitness.

He should be ruled out of ALL tours WHat a disgrace to Indian cricket and all the great talented batsmen to have represented India. Rayudu is not fit for Ranji cricket let alone Indian team.
Seriously ? Dont get carried away with hype or lack of it. I remember you rate Yuvraj highly and he was a big FTB and couldnt play swing to save his life. He was good in LOIs on patta wickets. Its obvious you dont have much of an idea about how good or bad a cricketer is.

He has surely outperformed some of the so called hyped stars in ODI's. He has done well in whatever chances he has got. What do you want him to do? He averages 45 in 31 ODI's with a decent SR of 78. He cannot be dropped because few of the Indian fans think he is hack. He needs a consistent run in the team. We would have lost to Zimbabwe if not for him. Even against Bangladesh when all the over hyped stars failed, he was the one who played well to get us at least the one win along with the captain.

It is not the posters fault. It is general Indian mentality to follow the herd. Indians just want stylish players who will be backed to the hilt in spite of 100 failures. R Sharma who after substantial ODI's averaged 20 odd before he turned a corner in 2013 which was 6 years after his debut. Now they want Rayudu dropped because he had few failures even though he averages 45 in ODI's. Same thing happened for Ashwin and Vijay. Now Indian fans cannot say anything against them as they are performing well at international level.

the problem with rahane rayadu and vijay is they are too slow for todays cricket. I mean even physically the likes of Rahane and Rayadu probably wont generate the sort of power needed. So they are heavily reliant on placing and timing the ball. These players would have been excellent in the mid 90s when scores of 250 plus were considered to be good. Its getting a bit scary for India in the limited overs to be honest. For all the talk about IPL we are getting slow batters. MSD too has slowed down drastically. Raina aside its hard I dont see any slogger in the Indian side. In the last decade you had Viru and Sachin opening. One went for his shots the other played anchor. you had yuvraj and Dhoni at 5-6 to fire you over the line.

Rahane and Vijay are definitely too slow for ODIs even if they bat in the top order. They are not showing any signs of improving either. However Rayudu has a strike rate just below 80 and has recently improved his rate of scoring. In the past year Rayudu averages 53 with an SR of 83 (http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/33141.html?class=2;spanmin1=1+Jul+2014;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting) which is an acceptable strike rate.

still not convinced. I guess time will tell. It is acceptable. But India are not winning many tournaments with a strike rate like that. You cant win tournaments with acceptable. I think even Rahane average is more healthy as an opener than at 4. We are touring Australia i guess in Jan 2016. I think Rayadu should be given a run there. The advantage Vijay and Rahane have over Rayadu is they are established in one format atleast. Rayadu is close to being 30 years old. He will be 33 by the time the 2019 world cup happens... Not sure India need to settle for that. The likes of Iyer etc (not saying specifically him) might just be better bets.

Rohit Sharma (considered by most neutrals to be a very good ODI player with the ability to score at a very fast rate) has a strike rate of 82 which is just less than Rayudu's strike rate over the past year. If Rayudu can maintain a strike rate of about 85 from here onwards then I think it is really good. Rahane averages 34 as an opener compared to 28 at #4 (http://howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Players/PlayerPositions_ODI.asp?PlayerID=3889) but either way it is mediocre and definitely not good enough to displace the current openers' positions. Vijay is already 31. Other players like Shreyas should be given a chance and maybe they will be a better option than Rayudu but instead the selectors try out 30 year old players (hopefully the point of this is to give them one last chance and then never selecting them again if they fail).

Not saying he should replace them. He should not be in the odi team. Just saying its more healthy as opener. I would be ok in having rahane as a back up opener. His fielding as demonstrated yesterday with his ability to hit the stumps can be a very handy trait as sub fielder.
Vijay is already 31.
Which is why he is a dead end.

Not all teams can have hitters throughout the batting order. It is recipe for disaster if we have such a batting line up. People keep complaining Dhoni has slowed down but the reason for the same is that he needed to be that anchor to manage a batting line up full of hitters (This was when we havd Yuvi, Sehwag, Kohli and Raina in the middle order, Dhoni and Gambhir were the sane ones). I completely despise the word slogger. That term should restrict itself to T20 mickey mouse leagues. In 50 over cricket you need good batsmen who can score quick when situation demands. We have Dhawan at the top who scores quick and Rohit who can do either. Kohli at number 3 is a fast scorer and can drop an anchor if required. We have people like Rayudu/rahane who can play proper cricket and score fast too if needed. Then to round it off we have Raina and Dhoni who can either slog or bat sensibly if needed. This is the type of batting which is needed to be consistent in the format. Australia can afford a Maxwell in the line up as they have a solid top order. None of the top order batsmen are sloggers. They are play good cricket and score fast. David Warner is a good test opener too. Except for Finch and Maxwell all Australian batsmen are test players. If India can fill the spot of a Faulkner in the batting order, we should be good. All the other players like Shreyas Iyer you suggest need to be tried out but again don't expect them to strike at 95 and average 50. It is not going to happen. Either they will be a 30+ batsmen with 90+ SR or they will be 45+ batsmen with 80+ SR. Thats the normal combination unless you have a freak like ABD.
