Franco Vazquez Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Namibia have been a regular member in Associates. They have missed out on qualification for ICC events in the past and once again they missed it today by the touching distance. There opening batsmen Stephen Baard is the highest run getter of this tournament. It was heartbreaking to see their cricketers cry after missing out on qualification.Giving T20I status to Namibia would only benefit cricket itself.Namibia have their U19 team qualify for WC for last few WCs and I think they are one of the emerging sides. https://www.change.org/p/icc-give-t20i-status-to-namibia?recruiter=349148228&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&rp_sharecordion_checklist=control
gazza Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 The t20 qualifiers have been great, Namibia should be given status, the associates seem to be coming on very well over the last decade.
Lannister Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Since Pakistan is not coming to India for the T20 world cup, it's natural Namibia will fill in place of Pakistan.
Franco Vazquez Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 Come on people sign this petition.Only 8 supporters till now
Franco Vazquez Posted August 1, 2015 Author Posted August 1, 2015 Only 10 supporters till now.I think this petition is a waste.I want to ask members here that change.org is really effective?
HippoSucks Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Change.org is somewhat effective in small issues if you get a lot of supporters.
Franco Vazquez Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Change.org is somewhat effective in small issues if you get a lot of supporters. For example how much?
Marut Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 For example how much? 1 lakh is considered the ball park figure for important issues - though many important petitions have succeeded with far fewer signatures (typically between 2000-10000). Not sure about this Namibia thing - target at least 500-1000?
swatpulla Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 They will make it on their own. Dissapointments and luck not favoring you is part of Cricket. I know its heart-breaking to see players cry, but Namibia had their chances and they choked. Imagine how sides who qualified on merit will feel when they see Namibia joining the tournament because of a petition signed by a bunch of emotional fans. Why not have a petition to make South Africans the joint 2015WC winners? Afterall, they are a talented bunch and their players too cried after a heartbreaking loss. Also, lets format the next qualifiers as war of petitions. :two_thumbs_up:

swatpulla Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I am not saying that they should be in tournament.I am saying that they should be awarded T20I status because they are one of the top sides in Associate Cricket for last few years now Yet teams like HongKong, Scotland, Netherlands, Afganistan and Ireland made it, but Namibia didn't. In any sport, you will have such heartbreaks. I am sure they knew what they had to do in order to get a T20I status, and they couldn't do it. That's not good enough, specially when you look at some sides who made it. If they are good, they need to stop choking, just my view. Good luck with the petition though.

SA have never made it into a WC final but a team like WI,India,NZ,England had made into it.So I am not saying that they should be awarded a place in WC but should be at least given ODI or T20I status because they have been WCL for the last decade and have homegrown players unlike UAE,Oman
moniker Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Got curious and looked this up. It seems like six teams are awarded temporary ODI and/or T20I status every four years based on their performance in the World Cup Qualifiers. So there is a process in place to award T20I status based on merit. It's not as if this is done randomly or on an ad hoc basis. Namibia knew of the process but failed it while other Associate/Affiliate members got through. Maybe a case could be made to petition the ICC to reconsider it's approach to awarding T20I status by decoupling it from the World Cup Qualifiers, but I fail to see the point of it.
Debutant Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Nah, don't want more minnows who don't even know how to hold a bat, join in elite tournaments

But the ODI/T20I status gets expired like Kenya,Canada and Netherlands had ODI status till last year but they lost it.After that Netherlands team brutalized England and if you remember HK defeated Bangladesh in their own home ground
lebron_fan Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Why do ICC encourages team with expat players? I has no benefit to cricket or its expansion. Seeing bunch of Indian-subcontinent players inspires no real passion or following among local population. Icc should focus on teams with local players like that of Namibia, Afghans Ireland etc. It should also consider limiting expats in other countries team.

There should be some rules to stop this.
