Both Gilchrist and Dhoni easily get in to an all-time ODI XI however I would give the gloves to Gilchrist. But I believe he's talking about an all-time test XI.

Not sure about either Gilly getting into that all-time XI in ODIs. I would rather have Amla and SRT open in ODIs, in place of Gilchrist. The middle order is gonna be pretty crowded with likes of Richards, Bevan, ABDV, Kohli, Abbas, Dhobi, etc. being under consideration. Any all-time XI would not have more than 6 slots for batsmen.

But Dhoni gets in the all time ODI XI as a specialist batsman easily.

An ATG team will already have six solid batsmen so picking a batsman-keeper like Dhoni makes little sense. I'll go for a specialist keeper like Syed Kirmani.

The meltdown in his test batting that punctuated our combined 0-8 disaster against Eng/Aus in 2011-2012 notwithstanding, he is still, by miles, the best ever indian keeper to have played for india in tests. Its very unfortunate because MSD had been an extremely serviceable batsmen in the first 5-6 years of his career, but his technique against the outswinger completely collapsed after the 2011 world cup win.
