I agree with Sangakkara's father to a certain extent though. Mahela Jayawardene is a far more talented batsman than Sangakkara and possibly the most talented batsman ever from Sri Lanka. It is unfortunate that he couldn't reach his potential. The father's getting a lot of unnecessary flak and speculations regarding his relationship with Sangakkara are probably wrong. Sangakkara comes off as a perfectionist himself so he might share similar views to his father as well. If anything he might even be pleased that his father had such high expectations of him - after all the expectations of your parents is a big motivation for any job.

Mahela's shot making was a delight. Terrific classy artist. But is that alone a measure of talent? By that criteria a Moeen Ali would be rated as more talented than Cook. The ability to be compact/ solid, patient, good decision maker and temperament should also be a yardstick of talent. Sanga may not have had the flair of his best friend but he made up for that in other areas.

Well if you can play some textbook shots without much coaching and all ,you must be talented but then you need to develop the mental forte as well. Honestly speaking I have never considered nohit as a talented batsman,he had a loose technique from the start

There is defensive technique and attacking technique. Rohit is out of the world in attacking technique. But useless in defensive technique. Since you need a defense to survive and attack the bad balls....Rohit's strength as good as his weakness in tests. Same case for Yuvi and Raina. Superior attacking technique but garbage defensive technique. Pointless combo in tests.

Sehwag's bad defensive technique against swing resulted in him getting owned in swing tracks. Sure, he scored some awesome scores in tough outside Asia tracks but that was due to God's given talent of hand eye coordination. The moment that dipped, Sehwag had nowhere to hide outside Asia.
