Cricket_Hacker Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I don't get why he should be dropped after playing just one game ie his first test in England. How can you expect someone to start performing from 1st test itself when the player was not even sure he would play a match in the series. a batsman must be dropped to make way for Ashwin. Given the way Rohit got out,he must make way.
maniac Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Ok trying to be as neutral as possible when I say this.... Let us take the example of Binny-In a perfect scenario dropping him is unfair after 2 tests when he did well in 1 and flopped in the other and when the captain hardly used him with the ball despite him coming off of a 6 wicket haul in ODI's.The only reason there is contempt for Binny ,is because of the stigma attached to him as to how he earned his test cap which is through Nepotism-This may or may not be true but that will be something that will haunt him forever. So the point I am trying to make here is when someone makes it to the squad let alone to the starting X1,it is an investment by the Board and selectors, as the person has clearly got his shot above 100's of other players toiling in domestics....I call it an investment because a Test slot should be coveted and very valuable. Now coming to Rohit-Fans here may or may not beleive in his talent or ability, that topic has been done to death here but let us take a look from a neutral perspective. We have invested in him for 7 years and he may have not been the next big thing obviously as people made him out to be in 2008 but he hasn't been a total washout in Limited overs formats. We have all acknowledged that. Now let us talk about his test shot-There was a consensus here that Tests are his go to format and he would do well there. YES he has not lived up to the expectations so far-totally agree but only 7 tests after investing in him all these years? I have said this many many times he is rightfully gone behind in the pecking order to Kohli,Chepu and Rahane,no doubts. BUT is it fair to dump him after 7 tests after which he still has a decent average? Now I don't want to get into a match by match analysis and his mode of dismissals but the fact is at the end of the day he has a decent average in his test career that just began. Take a look at someone like Johnny Bairstow who was supposed to replace Prior and touted as the next big talent,Has already played 14 tests before England moved on from him. Yuvraj Singh -just realised played 40 tests :omg: and Raina has played 17 tests so on what basis do people think Rohit doesn't deserve a few more chances before completely moving on from him? I am not saying it is still too early,I agree time is ticking for him but now is not the right time to dump him after all these years of backing him-Yeah 15 tests might have been exaggerated statement but atleast give him a few more tests, may be the rest of the England series-If he fails than yeah bring on the next in line batsman to be the fringe player like Rohit already is. The reason I like to irk people about Rohit at times is because of all the irrational hate he gets.....In reality he isn't as bad of a player he is made out to be-Yeah he has had a mediocre career after all the hype-but to totally write him off as a hack is worse than people having fun calling him a legend.
vijay50 Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Sir, 7 years Rohit screwed India and now he started to do well, somewhat in ODIs and T20s.If we have to wait for another 2 years (15 tests), he will not be a youngsta beauty, but will be in his 30s. Think about how many Batsmans career he is destroying. We already wasted time with the hacks Raina and yuvraj for several years and now Rohit is screwing it up.The 6th batting position in Indian line up is jinxed.Amen.

Again that is the statement I need clarification on.....How has he screwed India when he averages a decent not ground breaking 35.00 with 4 100's and 22 50's in just over a 100 games? Call that a mediocre career I will agree,Has been our most consistent T20I bat so you already said he has been OK in those formats. Now coming to tests how can you judge a player after 7 tests when out of which he has had 2 outstanding ones,2 mediocre ones and 3 poor ones? Judge him after 10-15 games,Yeah totally agree but there are other fish to fry when it comes to problems in Indian cricket and Rohit Sharma is definetely the top 10 problems we have.

SLICKR392 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 7 years in International cricket and has scored just 1 50 in 10 innings away from home. Where as the underperformers in this series have proved themselves in either NZ or SA.

Where as the underperformers in this series have proved themselves in either NZ or SA. Again back to the starting point after all the effort I put into writing the long post :banghead: He had 1 poor series and 1 mediocre one where he was not a total flop-Yes very mediocre but you can't call it a disaster. He has played 1 test here and he bombed......Please read what I said-His time is ticking but it is not over-Let him play 2 more on the trot or if possible 1-2 games in the next series and then that is it,Never look back and move on. That is the most logical thing to do.
GautiMaan Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Average of 35 in ODI's has to considered as a failure an Indian Batsman.

vijay50 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Average of 35 in ODI's has to considered as a failure an Indian Batsman. Not really. Sehwag played 250 ODIs as opener with 35 average.Again Sehwag is Sehwag and Rohit is Rohit. Their strike rates are vastly different.

Yes Sehwag/Raina have similar average but strike rate is vastly superior,Nohit's strike rate is similar to Pakistani batsmen
maniac Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Problem is if he plays WI at home' date=' he will make centuries, all will be forgotten and he will struggle in australia again.[/quote'] Glad you beleive his ability to totally pwn WI on S.C wickets so that's a start  If he totally sucks then he shouldn't be able to do well against them as well right?Or since WI are total minnows our top order should out bat them out of the game so that Rohit who bats at 6 will not even get a chance? I believe you wouldn't mind someone who doesn't pwn WI like you believe Rohit will but you assume will totally rock in Australia :hmmm: Great This is Lahori Logic 101

maniac Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Yes Sehwag/Raina have similar average but strike rate is vastly superior' date='Nohit's strike rate is similar to Pakistani batsmen[/quote'] Raina is a Finisher and Rohit has been opening abroad recently so naturally S/R will be low.....When I bring up his 200 with 16 6's then it becomes a flat patta against a SUb standard attack(Which I don't deny it wasn't :giggle:) But as I said there seems to be a lot of hate on one player who hasn't even played a lot
maniac Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Forgetting what Ashwin did in the same series?Ashwin should be undroppable if you give such weight to those performances Yes Ashwin should play ahead of Jadeja always

maniac Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 What was Rohit's avg/sr when he played as a finisher? It is not about Number crunching-If one gets to that you will find flaws in SRT and Lara's records as well leave alone a player who has played very little. At the end of the day 35.00 average over a 100 games is good enough with the 100 and 50's conversion rate....S/R is ok for a guy who has opened in some difficult conditions. Once again let me clarify the stats are mediocre to above-average from the high standards a lot of fans have but no way bad enough to be totally written off and made a mockery out of

The point i was trying to make is that Rohit totally failed in the finishing role but was given special preference and given a shot at opening. He had a good start no doubt but he has started failing in that role too. I believe India has better options that Rohit,Gambhir/skindia will do a better job as opener and Tiwary/Jhadav will do better in the middle order, but we will be stuck with Rohit because of his supposed tailunt.
