Pace and Hype

Recommended Posts

The ball by Umesh which bowled Steve Smith looked very quick visually. People were discussing how fast  that delivery was. But the speed of that delivery was only 141 k. Umesh looked very quick generally yesterday but speed range yesterday was only 138 k to 145 k.

Shows how quick even that speed range is.....when a bowler looks very quick on a bouncy track he may well be bowling 138 k to 145 k. In the '70s and '80s people would have said that Umesh was bowling 150 k + as he was looking so quick.

Umesh was express yesterday and that's the reason his natural length (I.e short of a length) was more exhibant ,almost 85-90% of his deliveries after the first over were 140+ and looked really quick but the pitch was so pathetic ,the batsmen still had time to play their shot.Aussie batsmen are masters of cut and pull, you've got try a different type of attack against them ,bowlers like bumrah, sran (a left hander) works

Umesh would have got much better results yesterday if he did not bowl that many deliveries on the pads and down the legs.

He could have tried some yorkers and a few more bouncers too.

His line, as well as his choice of deliveries as variations , were wrong.

He bowled Smith off a fast, good length delivery which seamed in. So...that works whatever the pitch or whoever the batsman.

If he had bowled good length deliveries on the off stump as his stock ball and yorkers and bouncers as variations...he would have got far better results. This line of attack is pretty standard really for a fast bowler...don't know why an experienced international pacer has to be taught this !!

Here is something for you guys

Daya Singh clocked 142 , but it was given no ball while the other white guy's 141 no ball given as fastest

Still think that 1979 and 1998 competition measured the speed which is commonly measured these days?

This guy Daya clocked faster than Holding and Devon Malcolm..Btw great talent but its 3 years and he is now here in sight
