Not a Bhuvi fan but I felt he was one of the bowlers that brought back some control at the WACA. If we play Gurkeerat that is 6 bowlers then we can afford to have Bhuvi in ODI's. Can bat a bit too. Key for him is to keep economy low and build pressure which he did at the WACA at least. Deserves another game.

 

I used to think all bowlers need to be wicket takers but in ODI's it's often not the case. If a bowler can be economical and bat a bit then it's okay. Especially if there are other wicket takers around him to feed off pressure. Sran bowls at a high economy going by his domestic stats but takes wickets. If every bowler is a Sran it is no good. If every bowler is Bhuvi it is no good. But when you don't have the complete product the combination of the 2 is okay for LOI's.

Under Dhoni, I am not sure if fast bowlers will develop. But things will change soon.

A captain is only as good as his team... or so they claim. I don't think that the bowlers will "improve" under Kohli's captaincy. I expect they will have more backing and better fields, but I'm not sure if their fundamental abilities will improve.

Good point. Personal ability is upto the player. Captain can help with conducive field settings and tactics as well as man management.

Ishant has improved a lot in tests matches played in the last 2 years.  Easily our most dependable test pacer  in this period. Has been pacy, decently accurate and improved his seam position.

Shami is a very good ODI bowler, has not declined in this format. He was always a work-in-progress in tests till now. His first test series was against a  poor batting lineup, which made him look better than he was. He was still combining pace with movement till his injury though.

Before his "improvement:, Ishant had certainly declined from the teenage pacer who'd rattled Ponting and co long ago. As for Shami, my prediction is that all these injuries will have made him less effective, and that we'll see his decline as well.

 

The point I was trying to make is that nearly all Indian pacers have gone through extended (sometimes even permanent) periods of decline, and that too during the ages when they're supposed to be at their peak, or close enough. A terrible country for pace bowlers.
