What a pathetic OP. 11 Pandyas can never win a match. Pandy's batting is only useful when there is already a good platform set by top order batsmen. To be honest, what has Pandya achieved till now to be getting so much praise ?? I agree, he has lot of potential but till now he has achieved nothing. His bowling is abysmal. He is very fast and energetic but also has made a lot of errors in the field. Apart from three slogs in the cow corner has nothing to show for batting. Jadeja currently is much better than Pandya

It is not about how good Pandya is.....It is about the fearless attitude that might rub on to others......Jadeja as a bowler, batsman or fielder may be better than Pandya but in Australia he was taking singles in the last over and farming the strike with tailenders to get his not outs....even the Indian and Aussie commies called his bluff.....Everyone including myself were skeptical of Pandya, infact I still am as his bowling is pretty ordinary at international level...but what was heartening to see is the lack of fear of losing his spot

If slogging is fearlessness then Afretard is the most fearless cricketer ever. Do you agree ??

it is not about slogging but playing according to the situation and not fearing to lose his wicket in an attempt to score quick runs when situation demands.

I am pretty sure any other batsmen would have done the same thing in that situation. Yuvi came and started hitting from the very first ball too. We can call him fearless too but we all remember what the same guy did in the last T20 WC finals. It is not like players play dot balls in the end just to be not out but maybe they are not able to hit the ball ass they want.

Poster was referring to Jadeja taking singles with tailenders and not going for boundaries in 4th ODI against Aussies.

What do you think about Yuvi ? Is he a fattu too?

Just one innings from a bowler and he is leveled as a phattu. This same Jadeja IIRC blasted the English bowlers in England in a test match and played a match winning knock. If we consider that innings the Jadeja too qualifies as a fearless cricketer

Where is Yuvraj mentioned in the OP. He did play badly in that final, didnt even try to play shots. He was showing forward defense against Senanayke when we needed quick runs and we had batting left in Raina.

My disagreement with OP is with him calling Jadeja a fattu. Yuvi is just an example. If a bowler can be leveled as a fattu because of one innings then why not a batsman who played a even worse innings than that ?? My point is if jadeja is a fattu the so is Yuvi.

I dont agree with the OP too because Jadeja just doesnt have the ability.

who played that innings in NZ when we required 29   off 2 overs and 18 off 1 over with one wicket left? was it his ghost?

did he bribe his way to a 32 average after over 100 matches?

Do you think a  SR of 84.89 is acceptable for a lower-middle order batsman after 126 ODIs  ? ?    ( for someone who is sent in to up the run-rate in the last few overs when teams try to score at 10 runs or more an over )

Even Harbhajan and Zaheer Khan have played a few innings of quick runs. Important is do it more often. He is not a free stroke maker because of the kind of technique he has. Regarding averaging 32, most of his innings are in lost causes and most times he remains not out like his innings in Aus in 4th ODI.  He has really had only two notable innings in ODIs till now. One in CT 2013 in Final against England and one against NZ in 2014.

Can't remember many innings by Jadeja when he has been able to up the run-rate at the end by playing a quick cameo.  That is supposed to be his role as a batsman in LOIs.

shotmaking is not a young man's game,..it takes time to develop....people often turn real matchwinners around 27-29......dilshan was not the same potent matchwinner in the early part of his career...he turned it around only around 2009...when symonds was in the 2003 team ,there was criticism he was only a bits and pieces player...it was his innings against Pakistan that  signaled a new symonds

IMO he has been affected by the shoulder injury...the same happened to uthappa as well..he still has some time

its not his fault he was taken in a bit early because dhoni was obsessed with the fifth bowler..to me he should have been given chance only around 2012 /13 first

but he can certainly bat

If he can, we are yet to see it in international matches.   As he will continue to play in the sub-continent matches as a competent spinner,  he will have plenty of chances to prove his mettle as a batsman.

In the meantime, till he does...he should play only as a bowler, in a bowler's slot and not as an all-rounder.

He has a SR of 86 in T20Is and average of 9 ,    after 28 matches and 14 innings...and that is really bad for a lower-middle order batsman.......  He averages 21 as a batsman after playing 16 test matches.

I can list more instances like a 67 vs England, a winning partnership with ashwin at perth, a huge partnership with dhoni in England from around 57/5

if its so easy to average 30 why cant the razzaqs and cairns do it? he has  a batting foundation and that you cant deny.

again not my contention he has turned into a full fledged matchwinner...but he can be more potent and I am still willing to give him time

120 matches is a reasonable set and it certainly shows he can bat at inetrantional level...opinions cant be blind to this evidence at one's prejudice

you are ignoring a large sample set and quoting a low sample set

In tests he currently  has a problem with the offstump line....I can argue test cricket does not need allrounders at all...so leave it

In international cricket it is all about doing justice to your role.  Jadeja comes in to bat at no. 7 or no. 8 in  LOIs.   His role there should be to up the scoring rate and play quick-fire cameos....which would mean a SR of 90+ in ODIs and 135+ in T20s.  He is way below that.

If we consider all 3 formats and the IPL...he has a disappointing SR in ODIs ( 84.9 ), T20Is ( 86.7) and IPL( 123.6 ).  He has a disappointing average in test matches ( 21), T20Is ( 9 ) . His only decent statistics are his 32 average in ODis and the IPL ( 23.4 ). ...and at 84.9  SR and 123.6  SR respectively .....he should bat within the top 5 in LOIs...if he is not good enough for that then he is not able to do justice to his role as an LOI batter till now.

http://www.iplt20.com/teams/chennai-super-kings/squad/9/ravindra-jadeja

It means that he comes in late and is not able to hit big shots and up the rate but does not get out and wastes deliveries. Hence the decent average and lowish SR.

Jaddu needs work on his grip and stance. He always seems cramped when he tries to play shots. His limited leg side game does limit his big hitting prowess at the moment.
