Career defining innings for Saha

Saha has real guts. This is an intangible quality that is impossible to quantify, but at the same time is invaluable in text cricket. He has the character and enough technique to keep his head, hang in there, and slowly accumulate when we need runs and wickets are falling. Today's hundred was obviously a great innings, but even last test match in the second innings, he added crucial runs with the last two wickets.

Not really, that means Ashwin bat ahead of him by taking his slot for granted. Ashwin has been good to okay recently, but Saha has showed that he is batting well. He just recently scored a double century in Irani cup, and a century here against quality bowling line up proves how well Saha is batting and hence it is important to use his form ahead of Ashwin.

Do not think team management rate his batting as high as you do but I think him being sandwiched between Ashwin and Jaddu actually lengthens the batting lineup.

I don't rate his batting that high, just feel he has a good form going right now since he has scored runs recently and it is better to have such player bat ahead. Honestly, it's not that great of a difference but sometimes it could help if he comes ahead in these situations.

I think he is a better player to play with the tail as well because he has the ability to play big shots when needed.So irrespective of form I think his current slot is good.

Overall career average matters when you have played regularly for a long period of time. he only got regular chances once Dhoni retired and before that he would only play an odd test here and there. He has played played 24 tests till now.
 

Saha is averaging 38 in last 20 tests since that Aus tour when he started playing consistently. Dhoni the best WK/Bat India have ever produced also averages 38 in test cricket, so, Saha has not done that badly.
