goose Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Hi All, I am planning a trip to Haridwar via Delhi in Oct to scatter my father's ashes. I'm looking for local knowledge on how many nights to stay in Haridwar, how to make it as comfortable as possible e.g. recommendations for accommodation, any scams I should be aware of, and the best mode of travel from Delhi i.e. taxi, train etc. Thanks Goose.
rkt.india Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 you can come and go back in a day if you travel by bus but if so much travelling is tiring, you can stay a night too. Also, the karmkand doesn't take a lot of time.
goose Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Thanks all for the advice. I looked at the train and drive options but decided we want a driver at the other end so i'll check into the Leela hotel in east Delhi for one night then set off at 3am for the 5 hour drive. My understanding is i need to make contact with the family priest out there so i'll check with my uncles in Delhi about that. I'm keen to avoid the hordes of rip off merchants i keep reading about and also would prefer a boat ride to a quiet spot for the ritual. Any suggestions on how i go about planning that? Am i right in saying that although Rishikesh is more pleasant the actual ritual has to take place in Haridwar?
