Following the Basics of Test cricket

Kohli again unnecessarily playing short balls outside off-stump before getting set.

 

Not leaving enough deliveries although it is a test match.

 

I know we are trying to score quick runs.... but defending short and wide balls won't serve that purpose.

Kohli is leaving a lot of outside off-stump deliveries and some short balls after getting set.

 

That is what was needed.

Many of our batsmen got out today, not following the basics of test cricket.

 

We are not leaving sufficient deliveries.

 

There is no point defending a delivery in a test match when it can be left alone without any negative consequence.

 

Quite a few unnecessary lofted shots were played too.

Both Dhawan and Rahane played away from their body.

 

Our batters need to practice leaving more deliveries outside the off-stump.

Easier said than that done. These players know that very well. But after playing LOIs and trying too hard to fit in, putting bat on ball becomes habbit and kind of natural game for player. 

 

Vijay is good at it, but he has been dropped.

Biggest focus for our batters in England should be to tighten their off stump game ... and leave a lot of deliveries.

 

For pacers, it should be bowling in good areas with full intensity.

Why are Indian batsmen, barring Kohli, constantly poking at deliveries outside the off-stump  !!

 

They are doing this to bouncing deliveries even (  those balls which have no chance of hitting the stumps  )

 

Looks like lack of intent.
