gakgupta Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) Unfortunately, Jaddu is being used as only bowler. In sub-continent conditions, he can be used as an all-rounder. Yeah....he has LBW problem with quality swing bowlers (Anderson exposed him) but who doesn't have weaknesses. BTW, how many quality swing bowlers are around.... Now that he is being used as just spinner(not all-rounder), are there better left arm orthodox available in country? I am not under-mining the efforts of jaddu here. He is doing his job perfectly well but he is a limited bowler. He can do only supporting job and could succeed while ASHWIN is around. Edited October 12, 2016 by gakgupta
tweaker Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Selectors should find alternative to Jadeja & Ashwin as injuries to them will expose our second rung of spinners. Selectors have earmarked Axar Patel as like for like replacement for Jadeja. Another left arm spinner in the contention is Shahbaz Nadeem,
Trichromatic Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Is Jaddu best left arm spinner in India? 68 wickets in 14 matches at avg of 17.7 and SR of 52 while playing with Ashwin. Ashwin has 93 wickets at avg of 18 and SR of 43 in those matches. Those are great numbers from Sir Jadeja and he is certainly doing a great job. I would say that India missed a bowler like Jadeja against England in 2012.

He would have run through the English side. tweaker 1
sandeep Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Jaddu as a package is the best option we have as a 2nd spinner. His ability to consistently tie up one end even on dead wickets, while churning out massive number of overs buys so much flexibility for the bowling unit. On top of that, with a bit of "natural variation" available (cricinfo in love with this phrase recently) he can take wickets in bunches. Add to that his all-world fielding, and useful runs down the order - hard to dislodge him if he's fully fit.
Vijy Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 In this Test, he hasn't really found his mojo (or in the 2nd innings of the previous Test as well). There are a lot of SLA in domestic cricket ranging from veterans like Nadeem to newbies like Dagar. Jaddu should remember this and not take his spot for granted. When bowling against Bairstow and Stokes, he looked particularly toothless.
