A list of all our Main bowlers in each format(Not a wish list)

This is not a wish list....Looks like give or take this is the order of preference for each format when all the bowlers are fit....Am I missing anyone?

This seems to be the first order of preference as of now.....feel free to add names of realistic backups and not some one who you would want to have in the side.

Looks like Varun Aaron is done for now

I have also omitted Thakur,Dhawal and Jayant Yadav because what is the realistic chance that they are next in line.

It is better to classify pacers and spinners separately because they rarely compete for the same position and the number of pacers and spinners are decided by the pitch and playing conditions or the captain.

Pacers --

Test matches --

Shami

Ishant

Umesh

Bhuvneshwar ( would be 2nd if swing friendly conditions )

Shardul

Aaron

ODI --

Shami

Bumrah

Pandya

Bhuvneshwar

Umesh

Dhawal

Sran

T20Is --

Bumrah

Bhuvneshwar

Pandya

Shami

Sran

I am not sure if Aaron is in the scheme of things atleast for the time being.....He is behind Thakur and Kulkarni right now by the looks of it...I don't know if he is injured or just fallen out of favor currently.

He is behind Thakur but not Kulkarni, in test matches.

Thakur and Aaron were our first 2 pacers on our A tour for the 4 day Unofficial test matches.

I don't think Shami makes the T20 team. At least not based on his previous work in the IPL...

he should not....but the OP stated that this is not a wish list but the actual pecking order. Shami was in our last T20I playing 11.

I hate this feature of posts getting merged.

Looks fine for Tests.. But in ODIs, Umesh surely features higher.. I'd put Bumrh, Shami, Umesh in the top 3

The OP  says it is not a wishlist. ....but what is actually happening.

Pandya is  ahead because he is an all-rounder.

I understand that.. Umesh is still ahead of Bhuvi who last played an ODI in Jan.. Umesh played ahead of Bhuvi in the WC too.

This is Pandya's first ODI series.. He has done well so far, but it would be interesting to see if he plays as a first choice seamer when Jadeja and Shami are back..

Pandya  will play to lend balance to the side.  Jadeja will replace Axar and Shami will replace Umesh.

I think we have a decent pool of bowlers especially fast bowlers.....I think we need to induct young pacers to play around them but the main pool right now looks promising....Do we have any overseas tests in the next year or so?

They all seem to be a good mix of pace, skill as well as experience.....Hope they start translating this into consistency.

Shami,Umesh,Bhuvi and Ishant have done well in the last year or so in tests even though they have been spin friendly wickets for the most part. I think we need to have 2 more young seamers to the mix who at least have some exposure in case of injury....Shardul or any other new bowler should be given a game at least when the series is sealed so that if we go overseas we won't be debuting a rookie fast bowler.

Infact our ODI pool looks more balanced than test pool for fast bowlers.

Hmm.. Somehow don't feel confident with just 3 mainstream bowlers + Jadeja, Pandya..

Feel like that is one bowler short, particularly when there are hardly any part timers in the XI.

In the next 12 to 18 months, I would like to see some more potentially wicket taking bowlers in the test side....and that would include Nathu Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur.  Aaron too if he can  improve his accuracy.

Nathu Singh would also be a great introduction to the LOI side as he can bowl accurate, swinging yorkers at high pace.  Sran is another one with good potential in LOIs.  Same with Chahal.

Do you think Bumrah can play Test? His First class record is good.

Agree...which is why we need someone like a  Jadhav in the playing 11.  It is a bit strange that none of our top order batters can actually bowl decently these days.

Previously, I was under the impression that he should be able to.

But, after watching him in this year's Duleep Trophy....I was disappointed with the way he bowled in the longest format. His pace was down, and he  got less movement than other pacers in the same match.   His intensity also dropped in the last session of the day.

Ponting was speaking highly of Nathu Singh in the IPL but never played him :((

Chahal has had a good last few IPLs and Sran was a good replacement for the injured Nehra this season.

Which is why I am skeptical about playing both Jadeja and Pandya.. I'd instead have one of them play based on conditions and play a 5th bowler instead. This looks a more stable XI to me.

As I mentioned in a different thread...Bumrah can't field...can't bat and is not that good with the new ball.....needs more dimensions to become a successful test bowler....so far he is a gun bowler at the death and in the middle and overall is very economical.

Yadav has a really good SR, 2nd best among our regular ODI bowlers as well as 2nd in wickets, but also has a 6 ER. Need to avoid using him at the death. Maybe a Bumrah-Shami-Yadav attack can be tried in ODIs. Bumrah and Shami would have to be the death bowlers.

Yes, I quite agree (except Aaron).
