India is now spoilt for riches with regards to openers. The likes of Vijay, Chopra, Jaffer don't even get a look in. It must be a bad time to be an opener in India, there is no chance Sehwag and Gambhir are going to be out of reckoning in the next few years. If there's a place in the Indian team to take it has to be the middle order in about 3 years time.

Ravi Almost every Intl team tries to have a good (med)pacer+batsman all rounder If there is a very good batsman+medium pacer allrounder at Test level, then space needs to be made for such a player and will be the #1 requirement now (esp when we tour places like NZ, Eng, Aus, SA) Irfan Pathan was supposed to be able to do this - but now nowhere on the Test radar. If such a player emerges, he will be worth his weight in the gold - should be able to score a good 40-50 runs while batting, and a good 3rd seamer option. A player like Irfan Pathan but unlike IKP - with not just the promise but the results will be a great boost to the Indian team.

MURALI VIJAY, ABHINAV MUKUND. They're both fantastic batsman, with solid technique and great records. Can both turn it on and save the match when needed. Mukund is just 18 or so too, and already has a 300 to his name. Rahane is class too but is mainly a middle order batsman for Mumbai. But tbh you can't drop Sehwag. He still averages 50+ in tests.

For me, I want to move Jaffer to 1 down after RD. Man..... there is no one to replace RD. We need a wall to replace a wall. I doubt there is any. If we find any good opener, we can move GG/VS in the middle order.

No certainly not Jaffer. I think Chopra has it in him to become a good number 3. He is solid, he just has to have the right temperament :eyedance::eyedance:

Huh- temperament has never been an issue for chopra He fails to hit a big one but it is certainoly not because of temperament

Yes...:agree: watched him here (UK)on under 19 tour 2 -3 yrs bk.To be honest he was in Dravid kinda mode at that time. scored a patient hundered in one of the tests.Rest , u can ask Cricketics :bow:

I would not pick Chopra in the test side for the simple reason that he doesnt put away the bad balls enough to put opposition bowlers on the back foot. Its all well and good to have good technique but the difference between Dravid and Chopra is while they both could stonewall during the difficult times, Dravid when in his prime would put away the loose deliveries. At the moment I think when Dravid retires , Murali Vijay or Badrinath will be the better replacements for the no.3. Virat Kohli is also a good option I feel.
