When we celebrate them for making all kinds of sacrifices, but do nothing to decrease their burdens? When we praise them for being the reason for our success, while doing nothing to support their quest for success? When we stereotype them for being great cooks, housekeepers etc., while not realizing that their dreams may go beyond what you want from them? When we put them on a pedestal for being soft-spoken and patient, because that is what we expect of them? When we celebrate Ma, but get together with her to torture biwi? Worst of all, when we find out that there is one on her way, we terminate her even before she has a chance? Let's do something real, 365 days of the year. Not create window dressings for 1. I agree with the sentiments that more should be done for women .... It is sad to see most of what you wrote happening in the society

We all know that, but Women's day is so patriarchal in it's concept is the OP's point. Equality is never attained if we have to have a day for Women's day to remember their sacrifices. We only look at the success stories. Muloghonto

That is a flawed argument, since it is only valid when women and men are equal in practical scenarios. But they are not so. But by having a day for a clear-cut oppressed group through human history, it raises awareness about it, in what is still, largely a patriarchial society. For now, the gains made for the women, by having such a day, is quantifiable. And that should be the focus, really if people actually care for women.
