Why is there so much confusion reg this issue?

 

Just ask the umpires and officials if Kohli and team had informed them beforehand as had been claimed.

 

If they say yes, then Aussies have cheated on purpose.

 

If they say no, Kohli and team has lied.

 

Matter over.

 

Why is there even a speculation when it can be found out in a quick way?

 

Odds are very high that Kohli is speaking the truth. No one is gonna lie about informing the officials in a freaking press conference. Why isn't anyone asking for their statement?

Because the answers would be seriously damaging to Cricket Australia.  If you don't ask this question - the "brain fade" cover story will stay alive, at least on paper.  And will be believed by majority of Australians.  Right now - its far more easy for Aussies to believe "Kohli lied".  

 

I just hope the BCCI CEO had enough steel to make sure that this "favor" given to CA will be comped appropriately.

One thing that I found interesting is- observing the umpire. Like he almost knows what Smith might try to do

Is pretty obvious Kohli is telling the truth. He's not an idiot. No one will go out and accuse someone of cheating, when they know it can easily be checked. All they had to do was look at the 20 odd balls he faced plus ask the umpires. He's Indian captain and by far the worlds richest and most popular cricketer. Why would he risk his image for five minutes of drama? 

 

Then you factor in Sunderland flying in immediately, random  unsubstantiated news reports of Kumble and Kohli misbehaving and Smith trying to blame junior teammates, it becomes obvious something was going on. They can deny it all they like, but their image is tarnished for good and it's amazing :)
