Its laughably clear how badly they are trying to downplay the unspoken threat. Bottomline - just like the PCB bhikaaris have no legal leg to stand on, to ask for Indian tour, similarly the ICC can not penalize India if it exercises its rights and withdraws from the Champions trophy.

I doubt if BCCI would pull out.. Timing is not in BCCI's favor. A pull-out threat holds a lot more water if we were a few months away - because BCCI could have taken more than just Team India out. And arranged for the TV channels and sponsors to have alternative content. With a few weeks left, all of that is almost impossible to do.
sandeep Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 Bigger problem is that the new 'reforms' make it harder for the BCCI to apply its leverage. That's even worse than the revenue cut - which frankly, is not really going to hurt India much.

They could say.. alright we can go in CT but then pull out from other bilaterals.. or may be Indian sponsors have that clause in contract saying ''if no India, then we are eligible to pull out''.. Given he's 70+ and ruled out, Modi's the next best choice. Dalmiya's long dead. Bottomline, BCCI needs to do its homework and come up with sound legal strategy. But that takes time. In the meantime, a decision has to be taken regarding the champions trophy.

Dalmiya was referred to as "DollarMiya" for a reason. Those early Tv rights bids for Indian cricket were spuriously low - and almost always went to one bidder - for a reason well-known to those in the inner circle. Dalmiya was good. Modi's strength was setting up the commercial league and working the business angle. He may not be the best at working the ICC regulations, but given his background dealing with the Rajasthan board and BCCI internal politics, and especially given his tendency to ramp up the IPL - he would have scared the ICC $hitless.
