Pujara isn't considered an HTB anymore, but he still averages 29 in England, 15 in NZ, 32 in SA, and 31 in WI.

 

Root's worst countries are Australia (38), NZ (26), SL (38), and Bangladesh (25). That is a better record than Pujara though.

Pujara, Williamson, and Root are all in the same tier as of now, IMO.  Kohli is a level above them, and Smith, at least according to average, is somewhat above Kohli.

It’s very hard for kohli to get similar average like smith . Smith played most of his game  on uber flat australian wickets so his average won’t go down I guess where as kohli has to play  on Indian pitches , where we have to dig holes to accommodate greatest HTB fatiswhin

You are right about the home series advantage! Smith averages 77 in Australia  , yet certain people aren't so quick to label the other Aussie batsmen as FTBs.

 

Steve has a more complete batting record than Kohli, as he averages greater than 40 in all major countries, but they are mostly low 40s.

Kohli still averages below 40 in Eng and Windies as of now, but his average is pretty high in most countries

1 more good or bad series in these countries can really swing the records for these two in one way or another.   It will be interesting to see if Smith can maintain his high average as he gets older. As he doesn't have a conventional technique, he may be more vulnerable to declining reflexes.

 

Regardless of order, I think the two are in the same tier, a tier above the other 3 mentioned in this thread.
