RP Singh sidelined by hamstring injury In a setback to India's chances in the final Test in Adelaide, RP Singh, the left-arm seamer, will not bowl on the third day due to a hamstring injury. RP suffered the problem on the second evening, while bowling the seventh over of the innings. He had walked off the field after the last ball of the seventh over, when he pulled up after bowling a misdirected bouncer down the leg side. He underwent a scan later in the evening and it was confirmed on the third morning that he wouldn't take part in the day's play, leaving India with four specialist bowlers. Whether he will bowl later in the Test, or in the subsequent Twenty20 and one-day series, remains to be seen. India decided to go in with five bowlers for this match, the first time since the Mirpur Test against Bangladesh in May 2007

Ok. I think I'll turn this into "Injury Updates Thread for Indian players since Australia" so that we can post about the condition of the injured players, and keep on adding if others get injured in the coming month and a half. 1.So the first one goes as, Zaheer knan ruled out for six weeks from 3rd January, due to heel injury. 2.RP Singh ruled out for two weeks dues to grade on tear in the hamstring area. But he'll stay in Australia and Gloster will look after his rehabilitation. RP picked up a hamstring injury but the good news is that it is a grade 1 injury, which is the lowest possible hamstring tear. RP suffered the problem on the second evening, bowling the seventh over of the innings. RP Singh, India's second-highest wicket-taker in this series with 13 victims in seven innings, had walked off the field on the second evening. He underwent a scan later in the evening and it was confirmed on the third morning that he wouldn't take part in the day's play, leaving India with four specialist bowlers. It left India relying on Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly bowling 12 overs between them. MV Sridhar, India's assistant manager, later revealed the extent of the injury. "He will undergo a rehabilitation program, which will be monitored by John Gloster, the physio. He is under constant supervision. We will reassess his situation after two weeks." Sehwag admitted that the side would miss RP Singh's incisive bowling, given that they were pushing for a victory to square the series. "It helps to have five bowlers because the fast bowlers were tiring," he said on India's decision to play five bowlers for the first time since the Mirpur Test against Bangladesh in May 2007. "When the match started we went with five bowlers and it's unlucky that RP is injured now. But we still have four bowlers and myself, Sachin and Sourav can contribute a bit." India's most-improved bowler in the last year, RP Singh played a big part in Sydney and Perth. He rattled Australia's top order on the first day in Sydney before claiming six wickets in the memorable win in Perth. He has led the attack manfully, combining well with Irfan Pathan and Ishant Sharma, and managed to swing the ball in both directions. It's also a blow for India's chances in the forthcoming CB Series one-day tournament. He is surely out of the Twenty20 international against Australia and will mostly be out of the first three matches of the tri-series, starting on February 3. The earliest he will be expected to return is on February 14, when India take on Sri Lanka in Canberra. 3.Dravid out for at least two weeks January 28, 2008 Rahul Dravid has been sidelined for two to three weeks following a hair-line fracture to his right middle finger, an injury that forced him to retire on the morning of the final day in Adelaide. Dravid was struck on the glove by a Brett Lee bouncer and walked off after showing signs of discomfort. Dravid hasn't been included in India's one-day squad for the CB series and is expected to be fit for the home series against South Africa, starting in March. Dravid couldn't grip his bat too well after the injury and, after receiving regular treatment from physio John Gloster, decided to leave the field in what will probably be his last appearance in Australia. He was taken for an X-ray soon after and spent the day using ice-cubes to heal the finger. A final report it awaited but he is unlikely to be ready for action before at least another couple of weeks. -------------- Please keep on posting about others.

Nah. I'd rather like him to return to India and then recover fully for the coming challenges instead of rushing in when not fully prepared to take a plunge in the international cricket again. I'm sure that Pathan, Ishant and Sree will be nursing some injury by the end of CB tri series. I'd have preferred it much more had Sachin opted out as well. Let a young team take over and let the world have a glimpse of what future has in strore for India.

So apparently RPS goes home and Munaf is recalled in place. I'll post this news if I find it on any site other than TOI. Also Yuvi won't be fit for the T20 and even the 1st ODI. So Tiwari comes in his place. How I wish that Sachin goes back too, giving Tiwari a full series. PS: Here is the confirmation: Munaf to replace injured RP Singh in tri-series January 29, 2008 Munaf Patel will replace the injured seamer Rudra Pratap Singh in the squad for the upcoming one-day tri-series in Australia, a statement from the Indian board has said. Manoj Tiwary, the Bengal middle-order batsman, has been selected as backup for the injured Yuvraj Singh. RP, who suffered a hamstring injury while bowling in the first innings of the final Test at Adelaide, has been ruled out of action for three weeks. Munaf last played for India in the second Test against Pakistan in December 2007 before a back spasm ruled him out of the third Test in Bangalore. The National Cricket Academy, based in Bangalore, pronounced him fit earlier this month and currently, he is playing for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy where he picked up three wickets in 29 overs in the first innings in a drawn game against Central Zone. Yuvraj, who is nursing a knee injury, will be treated by an orthopaedic surgeon in Melbourne on Wednesday. Tiwary will be flying to Australia as soon as the visa and other formalities are completed. Tiwary, who missed making his ODI debut against Bangladesh in May 2007 due to a shoulder injury, has been in decent form in the domestic circuit, scoring 456 runs at 45.60 in the Ranji Trophy. The CB series, beginning on February 3, involves Australia, India and Sri Lanka.

'My leg is still in cast, but I am heading for South Africa where I will consult a few doctors. "I have been undergoing treatment and it's been around four weeks now that I am out of action," Zaheer told rediff.com on Tuesday evening before leaving, adding he is looking forward to playing against the South Africans. .
