Vk1 Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Kumble being a wrist spinner could bowl fastish leg spinners and flippers that bamboozled the batsmen for pace. Most batsmen and commentators would say that they played him as a medium pacer. He seemed to have a strong shoulder to generate that speed. Now the same Kumble had a really poor arm in the outfield. His throw was akin to throwing a plastic ball, it kind of floated in air from the outfield till it reached the pitch. Also his ability to clear the boundary was very limited. Barely hit any sixers. Contrast this with other wrist spinners like Warne or Murali and they could hit sixers. Did he have a weak shoulder but just enough to bowl fast leggies?
rkt.india Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 He barely bowled leggies. He was a fast spinner.
Vilander Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Kumble was a different level in terms of build when you compare him to Warne or Murali, pretty sure Kumble was stronger by few orders. But his batting was well managed, while Warne was a fun/attacking bat more skilled imo ( had a funny way to land the bat), Murali was relaxed about it tail ender
gattaca Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 (edited) Hitting sixers is to do more with timing. If you combine both you get monster hits. It's actually more like a golf swing. If you try to hit too hard you don't know where the ball will go but if you hit the ball with tinning and shift of weight forward then you hit long on driving range. That's how Afridi gets out, he imposes his complete Pathan might on the ball and ends up mistiming the ball everytime. Only when he's relaxed he hits proper sixes.
