The opposition batting is also not as strong as it used to be. Imagine an Austrlian batting lineup not able to chase 188 in subcontinent, that was very rare event. But it happened so often in the last couple of years. This SA batting line up may have big names such as Amla, ABDV and Duplessis but I will still say given their form etc. were inferior to the ones India had to bowl to in 90s and 2000's. express bowling
We have picked all 40 SA wickets without much difficulty ...... SA could not cross 350 even once in 4 attempts in their own country .... dismissed for less than 290 three times.... once for 130. Well done ! This is the best bowling attack, as a group , I have seen from India. 4 pacers who can bowl at 145 k ..... 3 of them get good bounce .... 1 good swing bowler .... 2 top spinners .... 1 fast-medium all-rounder .... a very well balanced attack. Quite a few new quick pacers and 2 new wrist spinners coming up too. Straight Drive and Mosher 2 Link to comment

We needed SA out below 200 to have any chance. Bumrah showed it could be possible but then same story like last game first innings. There were quite a few dropped catches ( much more than SA. ) ..... and bad field placements ( why no first slip and not a proper slip cordon for the most part ? ) If Parthiv had taken that easy catch of Elgar off the bowling of Bumrah, SA would have been 80 for 3 but 64 more runs were added by that partnership. There were other drops too. We were lucky that de Kock edged 4 times in one over. We can't be an optimally efficient bowling attack with horrible catching and non-sufficient players in catching positions. Edited January 16, 2018 by express bowling Mosher 1 Link to comment
rtmohanlal
And to think that all from that group except Laxman turned out to be very good to great one day batsmen too speaks volumes regarding the fall in standards of current set of batsmen.Except Kohli they are all one dimensional....And Pujara is far from even being at least one dimensional. The problem is batting. Once again Dhavan, Rahul and Vijay were like fish out of water as soon as they landed in SA. The openers are a big flop here, exposing one down and middle order far too quickly. Only Virat has shown he has capability to bat in SA. Had hopes from Chet but he has disappointed as well given he also flopped in 3 out of 4 innings. Problem is we have tried all opening combination and we still are not sure about abilities of them . We will have to pick two flop openers out of 3 flops and as soon as they take strike we will be on backfoot. Not sure whether winning the toss and opting to bat is a good idea given the start we expect from our batters. Better to let their nerves relax. Brainfade
Agree with OP, but how much of a role has the uncertain bounce in the pitches played in their success? Our batsmen, especially top-order, are hopping bunnies on this pitch. Yes, SA's bats have also not put up big scores, but their guys seem a bit more assured than all of our guys (except VK). Is it because our batsmen are so inept, or because their fast bowlers are bowling better than ours? Link to comment
Gollum
Once again a job well done, when the fielders support you everything becomes so much easier. Link to comment
