ozindian Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 he deserves a break he is 26 years old...been playing internation cricket for a couple for a couple of years and is the captain of the Indian cricket team..he needs to wicketkeep and hence have 200% concentration while team is fielding or batting and at the same time needs to setup field placement and encuorage the boys... give him break!! He is trying new ides - give him a chance - see what happens at the end of the next series!

The oldies were there in the World cup in WI and failed miserably.. I think Dhoni and company have shown enough promise that they deserve a chance.. I am actually glad that Ganguly , Dravid and LAX are missing from the team.. If we dont replace these guys now our cricket will fall back by atleast 5-6 years..
beetle Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 dont understand this.. why is there a fair bit of distaste for dhoni amongst you guys ? he seems to be your most decent wicket keeper/ batsman in a long time ? aggressive and his glovework seems tidy enough.. is there another keeper you would prefer to see in the side ? He has got things without working hard enough because of his off field dramas...and that has gone to his head. He did not deserve to be given the captaincy of the odi's and definetely not the VCaptaincy of a test team where he is yet to prove himself.He has been made king without proving himself worthy of the crown and he acts like the ultimate control freak insecure emperor. Besides this...he is also a two faced ,bacKstabbing snake.......

Its true that he didnt deserve it but he was the only member (apart from Sachin and Dravid ) who was a permanent member in both the ODI and test side. It wasnt a case of Dhoni deserving the capataincy but rather noone else passed the minimum criteria.

Zap_Brannigan Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Sehwag wasn't even in the side at that point nor did he do anything significant in the domestic circles to prove his recall (which BTW he never did). Do you see Zaheer playing today? Zaheer probably misses more games than he plays. Sachin, dravid and dhoni were the only ones in both the sides. With the latter 2 not wanting the captaincy, giving it to Dhoni was the logical choice. We could have had a captain in ODI's who wasn't in the test side, but then the only person who had more exp was yuvi. It wasn't like yuvi was a great captain in making either.

The way Dhoni sheperded the 180 run partnership was awesome and coming in at 83-4, he displayed sensible batting , ensured Gambhir did not throw his wkt away, and later both collared the bowling. Very well played.
